Why do producer choose the older mpc models?

all for the love. why do people choose older model cars? other than because you need a hooptie! LoL

Other than that, it's old school nostalgia and a lot of ****. Sorry. All this, "it sounds warmer" **** is pure conjecture. How you EQ, compress, and tweak **** makes it sound however you want. A lot of people say, "Hey, so and so has the 3000 -- I need that **** too!;" "Dilla used the SP-303, I need to get one too!"

I agree with most of your post, but certain machines sound like certain machines.


I could not do with a 404 what I can do with a 303, they sound totally different.

I cannot do with a 2000xl what I can do with a 3000 sonically.

They are all separate machines. sound totally different.



To the dude that upgraded to the 2000xl from the 1000, right on man. that is where its at. I totally agree with it making you more creative, and sounding more natural.

The 1000 is like a gameboy in the toysh nature of how it feels to use in my opinion

it doesnt necessary have to be about the interface problems, thats actualy easy to fix, I think it's more like people beeing used to working with theire machines. like there's this guy, where I live, who most ppl have the opinion that is the best producer in my country (I think that to) and he started with a mpc 2000 xl(well he started with a boss rythm maxine, but we r talking about mpc), that some1 gave I'm because they dind't know how to use it. he develepd is "producing skills" and know is the best producer here , and akai portugal gave him a mpc 2500(untill then he didn't use a computer), he uses the mpc 2500 because it has computer conection, more stuff, I don´t know. but he uses it.
bu he also uses his 2k xl, you would expect him to not use his 2k xl no more cause he has got a better one, but he kept it and uses it and still makes great beats, so I d't think is about interface (he actualy has a card reader in the mpc2k xl) or the fact that he would have to buy another mpc(also producers like kanye, and such don't lack money) is like an habit thing. also the sound of the sampler is diferent from the nukai mpc's to the old ones

Ive owned 5 MPC's and it all started with the 2500...the 2500 got me in the game about MPC's and this forum...big ups to CLiNT...I moved from the 2500 to the 3000, sold my original 3000 and bought another 3000, then bought the 5000 because I got tired of not being able to use my samples and chops and drums with the MPC editor, big mistake, I should have kept my 3000...from the 5k, moved to that big dogg 4000...now I chose the 3000 because of the Dilla theory...and of course just wanting to own an older MPC...I loved my damn 3000....but the 4k is suited to my needs...USB drive, CD drive...load from CD's or thumb drive and Im able to load up my recycle chops with relative ease...the 2500 definitely wet my appetite and I had the hunger for more...but now Im satisfied...I will buy another 3000 as soon as I come up with another rack...or I want a minty 60 for like 7 or 8 hundo...but yeah definitely I can see why producers choose older machines, its the sound and the workflow and that is achieved by wanting something that youre gonna be comfortable using.

Just my 2 cents...My statement is probably irrelevant.
