Problems Tracking MP1000 into Logic 9

Tonight I had my first attempt at tracking a beat I made on my MPC1000 into Logic.

I assigned each of my MPC drum tracks to a different output synced the MPC1000 to Logic using Midi Clock (MPC1000 was the slave) and record enabled my tracks within Logic.

I then pushed record in Logic. Each track was successfully recorded in to Logic but the tracks don't align with Logic's grid.

The recorded audio is all marginally ahead of the beat?

As you can see in the image below the kick waveform begins well before the downbeat of bar 4.



Where am I going wrong?

Anyone on here managing to track their MPC into logic and have the beat align correctly with Logic's grid?

You have done nothing wrong.

Expecting tracks to lock to the grid during tracking is a very common mistake.

What you should expect is that all tracks recorded at the same time WILL line up perfectly in your DAW.

Use the tools in Logic to get those tracks locked to the grid by moving them.

Move groups of tracks together; that is, if you track 8 tracks at once select them all and move them together. Normally you'd use the kick or snare to line them up properly. Ensure that you are able to move the tracks to any position by ensuring that 'snap to grid' is off, otherwise you will not be able to move your tracks freely.

Go into Logic's preferences. Go to MIDI tab. In there, there is a MIDI delay slider (can't remember exact name). Adjust the delay whilst playing the MPC (Slaved) (You are MIDI'd up right?) and the Klopfgeist. Get them locked and your audio waveforms will be locked to grid also.

I would expect *not* having them locked to grid to be the tracking error here.

What I suppose I meant to say was that the process of locking to the grid will not be automatic, some user input is usually necessary.

And depending on which DAW you use there will be many different ways to line things up.

You could try what Shostakovich described, or investigate the BEATMAP in Logic.

Doing it manually is good enough and fast enough, but thats up to you...
