Pad & Data wheel problems!!

Hey, Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for me? Pad A will only trigger once or twice in ten pushes and the data wheel will not cycle through programs unless I go into 'mode/pragrams' and select the one I want there first! Most annoying! Am I doing something wrong or is it f***ed!?!?
