Tune your bass notes?

When you guys flip a sample without a bassline that u can low end theory, what's your technique for adding your own bassline?

I have a bass sample (moog vst) that I have saved for my mpc (it's a note on c5). I usually just load that up and punch out a bassline in 16 levels. I just play it by ear, I dont really find the root note of the sample I'm using.

I guess my main question is, do u guys tune your bass sample before u throw it in 16 levels (tuning under the program/params) or do u just load up ur sample n try n bang out a melody that sounds good....

Or do u guys have any other good bass tricks u use?

could u let me know how u find the key of the sample? i usually just play it by ear until it sound sliek the bassline is in key with my sample...

if i use 16 level, then i don't tune. i just use my ear. but if i have multiple bass chops, i'll tune them. if the bass is low and indistinct so i can't here it that well, i'll use a guitar tuner.

So u use the guitar tuner for the sample n then tune ur bass with the guitar tuner as well?

when you work with samples u have to tune da bass sample with accuracy cause the note in the sample is maybe a C +0.20 so u have to tune da bass note to fit the sample.
+\- 0.10 in tune can make the difference !
after u can use the 16 level

lol...

u can tune with that much accuracy in the 2000xl (to the nearest .10)? i thought u can only tune it by whole numbers like plus or minus 1 (im talking when you tune it under programs/params or trim mode)...

yeah, in parameters 120 is an octave, so a semitone is 10

i realize that there are 12 semitones per octave anna real keyboard/piano but i am hearing a lot from ppl that 10= a semitone on the mpc...which one is it smh, lol????

You're mixing apples with oranges here. 12 semitones per octave indeed like others have said. But in the tuning screen a change of "10" signals a semitone (12x10=120). So in that sense "10" is a semitone in the MPc.
