2000 XL + Reason midi problem

What up,

I was just thinking about syncing 2000 XL to Reason 4 to trigger Reason's sounds, because I want to edit my before-MPC beats. Finally, I can control the sounds but I can't record midi into the sequence. Everything is set up, record button is enabled, but when I play it, it doesn't write midi information into the sequence, although I hear it.

Any suggestions how to solve it? I would appreciate it.

As far as I know, Reason won't record midi from an external sequencer, you'll have to do it track by track with the master keyboard or rewire it to a DAW and record the midi in there.

Anybody else feel free to chime in and correct me, I'd be interested to know this as well.

Last I checked (Reason 2, mind you), you could not record MIDI into Reason like this.

Funny, that's about when I ditched Reason.

When I plug my midi keyboard to USB, I can record keys that I'm playing (midi only), so it could be done like that. I mean I just want to trigger notes through MPC pads and record them as midi information to Reason sequencer.

MPC midi out to soundcard midi in, soundcard midi out to MPC midi in. Soundcard to PC through USB.

Of course. Everything is fine 'cause I can hear the sounds, but sequence is empty after recording.

i know i'm asking basic questions but gotta cover the bases, in ur rack did u click advanced midi controll on the master and set midi channel 1a to the input to lets say a thor and the mpc set prgm...

prgm to midi, then midi channel to 1a in the mpc?

I just don't get it. It may also happen to all MPD users, right? Because I'm only triggering sounds, that's nothing new to Reason or any midi controller.

By the way shift + midi/sync = both modes on OFF status, right?

no, they should say omni ab in the mpc, and make sure the midi channel is set to 1a on the mp

my bad you are right, you CAN record midi into Reason, but I don't think you can take it back out to another sound source.
That's why I left Reason.

To clarify on the above post though, MIDI/SYNC is unrelated to recording the notes, and it doesn't matter if it says off or not. You need the midi channel selected properly track by track in the main screen, though. Of course if you are using the MPC as master clock then yes set the clock to midi clock and out at,b or both.

Is there a 'record' button in Reason, instead of just play, could that be it? I mean if you can hear it, then it should be working.
Do you have to have a empty pattern already set up to receive it?

If you can do it with a keyboard, then you can do it with an mpc.

but it's still not working .

MPC -> Track-01 -> MIDI: 1A-Device

It looks like everything is OK because I can hear it. Even mixer shows me level on the channel and NN-XT shows the ''note on'' light when I hit the pads.

Of course I use a record button when I play the keys to it. But one more thing - keyboard is connected directly to the PC through USB cable, but MPC is connected to soundcard via midi cables.

So it seems like the problem is in my soundcard.

You won't be able to record midi through the hardware interface.....if you want to record one track at a time, set up a master keyboard in reason using the midi interface you're using to bring in the mpc's midi data.

mQueue: So it's only working with USB? I don't think so, there should be some option how to trigger it through USB-powered soundcard.

I'll try to plug my keyboard through midi to my soundcard, we'll see. Thanks anyway.

Make the MPC the master keyboard instead of your usb keyboard....
