Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By rjd2 Mon Oct 11, 2010 2:58 pm
hi all, i just put this drive in my 2kxl:

http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... EcQ8wIwBg#

the harnesses are all connected properly, ive drilled out the holes for mounting. when i go to "disk", and choose "flash rom", the drive doesnt recognize. ive tried swapping the internal jumpers around(master/slave, rst, da) and nothing gets it to recognize.

any help? thanks much.

It would be under ATAPI... not Flash rom.

Is this the OG RJ?
???

go to the format screen, and scroll to see if you can format the ATAPI drive.

Maybe it's because of the CF card you're using. I tried several cards but just some of them worked (SanDisk Ultra, 1 GB and 2GB (only 1GB usable if used in the MPC, but works)) There are several threads regarding working CF cards in this forum.

actually, ATAPI drive is not coming up as an option for the drive. so the machine is not recognizing it.

ive got both the power and 40-pin harness connected. could this be due to the jumpers? there were no instructions with the drive. thanks.

and yes, if you mean "deadringer" rjd2, then yes that's me.

Hit me up on the pm... ill send you pics. Got the lock down on the xl internals. I can set you up with the kit for free. 9gig internal scsi drive to archive and the whole shebang.

Grublet-thanks. i'm comfortable working on the machine, do you mean you have a 9gb drive i could install in the machine? thanks for the offer; if so id take you up on that via pm.

mr_debauch-no, i dont, which leads to....

IT GETS WORSE:

just tried to update OS on this machine to see if it helps. was 1.1. updated to 1.4, the most recent OS listed on akaipro.co.jp site. now, the machine wont recognize ATAPI drive at all. not the CF drive, not the 100mb internal zip that was working before i installed the new OS.

i obviously did something to cause the machine to refuse to recognize an ATAPI drive. it just says "no floppy device", even though the zip drive will power up, insert/eject disks. im stumped.

dont panic dude... when you have version 1.14 installed and you got a CF reader it will say floppy not found.... so all you gotta do is get that version 1.20 installed in your machine and you should be golden just like scsiforsamplers says...

1.14 for zip drives, and 1.20 for atapi (IDE) card readers.... 1.14 for scsi drives and readers.... 1.14 for floppy drives.

hey man, off topic... but did you do the intro song for the show Mad Men? I was so sure it was you but couldn't find the answer myself and seeing as you're here... maybe you remember if it was you?

shit, do you still have the stock floppy drive from the machine? that very well may be a viable option. next idea would be attempting to get it installed via a scsi device of some sort...
