I just installed an internal hard drive into my 2500. The HD I got was off the list of working hard drives I got from this forum. My mpc is not recognizing the drive. What all do I need to do to get this working?

almost every harddrive comes from the factory with a little jumper at the back which ist mostly set to "master". the mpc does not need this jumper! remove it and try again.
to check if the mpc recognizes the hdd goto the save/load page and highlight the field that says "memorycard or cd or internal" and turn the data wheel until it says "harddisk". now you should see the numbers for free and used memory. if there are no numbers you might have to format the drive.
to do so choose the utility tab and then format while the harddisk is chosen.

Thanks Jo. I dont see a switch or anything for the jumper. I found the manual for the hard drive, and it talkes about how to set it up as a slave drive, but I still dont understand how to actually get it done. Here is a link to the manual. sdd.toshiba.com/techdocs/MK1032GAXUserGuide.pdf

ok, the manual of your hdd says it is jumperless for master configuration. that means there should not be any of the little plastic jumpers on the four rightmost pins (a,b,c,d).

so far, so good. now we gotta find out if the harddisk is working at all. do you hear it spinning when you turn on the mpc? and if it spins, did you try what i said earlier and choose the harddisk in the load/save page?

if it is not showing up there - try if it is selectable in the utility tab and format it.

if another forum member successfully used the exact same drive it should work if it is not broken.
if it is broken i hope you can get a refund or swap it for another one.

did you follow the instructions in the mpc manual to install the harddisk? press it firmly into the hdm10 adapter and be extra carefull to not bend any pins.

thanks again Jo. It seems to be working. I am able to save/load to the hard disk, create folders and I think I hear it spinning. When plugging into a computer, only the fash drive shows up. Is it normal that I cannot access the internal drive this way?

if you choose the harddisk instead of the cf-card in the load/save page it should show on your computer if you connect the usb.
due to the internal structure of the mpc only one of the two can be accessed at a time. this is also why you cannot copy from the hdd directly to the cf-card and vice versa. akai was a little at the cheap there.

if you are about to copy a large amount of samples (i´m talking gigabytes here) be prepared it might take a very long time since the usb connection is usb 1.0 only.

have fun.
