mpc and live recording

Can someone tell me if another mpc model then 2000/2000XL can work with live recording like this:

Instead of the voice i want to use different instruments..

Get a loop pedal if you want to do this.

So the mpc series are totally not up for this ?

It's not really what they are designed for.

The MPC was a sequencer first, sampler second. Only recently have they been marketing them more as samplers than sequencers.

Still, the sampler in an MPC is very basic and is definitely overshadowed by the incredible sequencing power.

You could simulate this two ways:
1) have the samples you want to play already in the machine, and build your sequence up live.
2) use MIDI instruments, and build up the song track by track...in this respect, the MPC will become far more powerful than any looper pedal around today.

For an example of live MPC looping, dig Anchorsong, he is a master of live sequencing the MPC 2kxl.

im really suprised that lay in a guitar (trough jack or mic) like he does with the keyboard(midi) is not possible to play live in the mpc. In my opinion that is really a restriction and should be easy to write in some new jjos version or something..

second thing is the mastering process, he makes wonderfull music, but needs mastering for listening in the car or home hifi-fi or even a surround set. People who buy/download your music are dependent on this type of hardware.



dont get me wrong -!MPC untill death!- the 2000 for instance has the best pads on mpc ever! and i will keep using it in combination with my DPS16. However, the way to use this combination properly is really cumbersome..
maybe need to write some letters to akai for example..

I think Gel is one of the freshest when it comes to rocking a 2kxl live...dude could battle a drummer on a full kit. Aand prolly wiin.

I'm afraid Direct Recording doesn't do what you're looking for either. It requires stopping the sequence and re-starting to record another piece of audio as well if I remember correctly.

Damn, that's exactly the stuff op on my mind right now.

The feeling i have is that the ONLY problem which keeps us MPC-dudes from being able to do the most complex live-sets is the fact, you can't switch to the 'next sequence' window after you've been in record mode once... Right?!?

Don't get me wrong, that Anchorsong definitely brings it to the limits... however he is still just doing layers and unmuting them afterwards - great for dance music

The 2000 can't
