Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Whatup guys?

since this is my first post, i wanna make this one count so..
allow me to thank the whole community of MPC beatmakers who contribute to such a dope board!!

i've been lurking since years and always wondered what it would be like to make beats on the MPC but
i was still kicking it with reason 2-4..
2 weeks ago i did it and bought myself a 2000XL with the built in flashcard reader.. i never looked back since!
up until yesterday evening..

now i know you guys like a detailled description of the MP/OS for troubleshooting but fact of the matter is i'm a newb..
so bare with me aight?

here's the deal:

i've got a flashcard adaptor wich holds an 32MB card. first i formatted the card on my MP, but because all of my drums are still on my macbook
i also needed to use the card for my mac.. so i tried, via an usb cardreader, to collect my drums on that same card.
32MB card->formatted on MP->connect to macbook->drag and drop drums->inserted back into the MP. *hope this helps*

now i've searched the boards for an answer and already had the ATAPI highlighted when i wanted to load the drums but nothing happened!
i had the detecting memory message *i was psyched! i thought i had it working! but it didn't..*
i don't know wich OS the MP has, but trust me it recognized the cardreader.

so i reconnected the card with my mac and changed the filenames of my drums and tried again..
*important to note that when i reconnected to my mac is immediately saw that the card was named MPC200XL i figured this was good..
then i inserted it BACK into the MP tried again to load, still nothing happened..

Then *and here is where i think i fugged up* i connected the card back to my mac, formatted the card, and inserted it back to my MP
clicked the power button on, and immediately got the (wait....) message.. so i've waited and waited and waited.. but NOTHING happened!!
it doesn't matter wich button i push or click the power off and on, nothing happens!
i'm stuck and really starting to feel as if i wasted my money on this machine..

any of you guys can hook me up?

Thnx..

OS should be 1.20 since it seems to format the card correctly. As far as i remember with OS 1.14 you wouldn't be able to format CF cards via ATAPI anyway..

Check:

- When using a Mac, formatting CF cards needs to be done by the MPC...
- The card itself needs to be compatible.. Seems it is as formatting works anyhow..
- Your samples need to be 16bit 44.1kHz PCM Wave format (mono or stereo)
- filenames of your samples max 8 characters + .wav file extension
- keep in mind the MPCs RAM amount.. 2,18,32MB?
- The MPC has to be switched off when plugging the CF card (in and out) / No Hot-Swap..
- make sure you understand how to load / save sounds (manual!)

hope this helps.. pz

Not sure if this is relevant, but I have had the experience before that just connecting my card to my mac, it would render the card unreadable by the mpc...Macs like to add hidden files without asking.

Anyway I was able to read the card properly in windows and delete the hidden files, which solved my particular problem. I try to keep my MPC cards away from my mac now.

Also make sure you format in fat16. Not sure this is your exact problem, but worth looking int.
