Question About Sequencing MV 8000 With MPC 60 II

I feel really dumb asking this question, since I was able to do it when I first got my MPC 60, but I can't get it to work right, now...

I want to play the MV's pads and have it recorded via midi into the sequence on the 60

I am using OS 2.12


I have midi out of mv8000 going into midi in of mpc 60

I have midi out(A) of mpc 60 going into midi in of mv 8000


on the mpc 60:

I have assigned a midi channel (channel 2A) other than the drums channel (midi 1A) to the track

In the Sync screen I have Sync Input =Off Sync Output= Out 1

Do I need to assign default Midi channel or change any of these settings?

Is it possible to make the 60 go back to it's original default settings ?

Do I need to assign the pads on the mv and mpc to each other for it to work?



on the mv8000:

I have track 2 of the mv 8000 song selected

(the mv only receives midi on one midi channel at a time, whichever track is selected/highlighted)

I have Slave-Midi selected in the sync screen of mv 8000 (not mtc or remote midi)


When I start the sequence recording on the mpc 60, the Play button on the MV lights up and it "plays" the MV sequence, which is empty.

I play the MV pads and they are not played back by the 60.

The Midi light on the MV comes on when I stop the 60's sequencer, but is not lit up when the 60's sequencer is running.


I don't know if my problem is with the MPC 60 or the MV 8000.

The 60 is a monster also but a different one, simplicity is the theme for it
Your setup & routing seems fine, i don't know why you would want to midi a mv to a 60, seems strange?
Is there something wrong with either one?
If you want that 12-bit crunch both of them have it.
Please tell me, us.......peace

I was thinking of doing that too but never got around to it... it is nice if you are working on a track on the 60, you got them hard drums going... and lets say you just thought of one of the instrument patched you got on the MV and maybe it would sound good being on the song also.

I figured it out.

I read the 60 manual and set it back to the factory defaults.


The problem was I didn't have the track parameter set on the MV.

I set Channel 2A on th 60, Track Parameter Midi A2 on the MV.

The short answer - Primo MPC 60 and S950 me - MPC 60 and MV8000

The long answer -

I experimented a lot with the shuffle and grid quantize (input quantize) on the MV and I got some settings that came close to what I wanted, but not completely what I wanted.

It's really just my preference. I'm a big fan of Dj Premier's beats, I realized a while back that almost all of my favorite beats to juggle were done by Primo. So, getting a 60 after realizing that and hearing about the mythical swing/groove was a natural progression for me.

I use the MV for almost all my samples and I definitely use the 12 bit effect along with a few tricks of my own to process my samples.

It's just easier for me to get my drums programed the way I want them on the 60. Sometimes I just resample the drum sequence (drums are an mv patch) and play the rest of my sounds/samples with the mv's sequencer over the drum sequence i made with the 60.

I have done beats with only the MV.

I am mainly a turntablist so I use the MV as a multi-track for scratching, and to make my own instrumentals out of old hip hop songs, like "One for the Treble" by Davy DMX. I chop out the vocals and scratches and reconstruct the beat.The MV makes it easy with it's massive 512 mb.

oh so you're just using the sequencer on the 60 then?

man, I would do the whole drums on the 60. okay maybe all the main drums, if you got lots of cymbals and things with insane lengths of decay then some of those on the MV might have to happen but those drums knock on the 60.

that 512 is nice on the mv though so you can load samples for days on there.

I am really such a newb on the 60, I'm still figuring it out, but yes the drums knock on the 60, and I spent a lot of time figuring out how to get them to knock on the MV, I had the SP 1200 first , so I tried to duplicate that on the MV, pretty much impossible, but I've come as close as I can and I'm still experimenting.

My workflow for chopping samples is much faster on the MV, since I have OS 2.12 on the 60 and you can't really chop,there's no copy sample function. But I love the sequencer, so the 2 complement each other really well.

Yeah, 60 sequencer only.
But I am going to take your advice on doing the drums in the 60.
That was the first way I did it - drums in the 60 , everything else on the MV.
I've just been trying out all the different ideas I had of how to use them together, and I got a little lazy with using the autchop in the MV for the drums.

i know what you mean... **** mv makes it easy once you got the system down... the 60 you gotta kind of plan out the pieces... like, you need to plan the end points for example. But you know what also, once you get some drum sequences made on the 60 you can then record the entire loops onto your mv or what ever.
