What all will i need with my mpc to get started to make beats?
First you will need a mpc, that will help alot.
The mpc is a sampler based machine so, maybe sample other peoples music, that might be cool. You wont need to re-arrange it much to make a hit, maybe keep it as it is, then just add a 'Fresh' scratch sample now and then. That will make it sound fresh.
The key to making good hip-hop beats on the mpc is to act like you are a producer. So have a pile of cheap records from your dads old LP collection lying on your bedroom floor. People will think you are sampling them. Thats way cool!!
Also learn by heart the drum beat from Queen's "We will rock you." Its a classic beat, and when you pound it out on your pads, be sure to rock your head while rocking out to it. Like 'yes, yes yes I'm Rocking this' And 'No, no, no, don't stop.'
One key piece of equipment you will need to get with your mpc, is a mixer. I recommend getting a 'Mix-o-matic', or 'The Blendor'. These are fantastic mixers and have alot of fuctions which will help you to produce that killer hip-hop track.
Some special advise about mixers that many people don't know is; make sure the 'Sux' knob on your mixer is all the way down. That will stop you from sucking. Its fantastic and worked for me a lot. Usually the 'Sux' knob is located next to the 'Fat' knob.
