Problem with CF reader - Can't save

Hi guys,

My MCDISK II is behaving strangely. It does not allow me to save programs and samples, although I can read them just fine. Whenever I try to save a sample I get an [FF80] error, saying that there's no disk in the floppy drive.

I saw a thread by another user with the same problem, but the issue wasn't resolved.

Last major operation on the 3K was a pad replacement job, don't know if improperly connecting back a ribbon cable can lead to something like this.

Should I reformat the card? Start looking for bulk floppies on ebay?

wait... are you using a CF reader (compact flash memory cards) or floppy disks (3.5" floppies) ??


It seems like you are using a cf card but are considering maybe switching back to floppies if you cant fix it?

MPL MC-DISKS "drop out" while receiving SCSI 1 commands and muti sector bursts of data when working in write mode with non cached storage media.

By default these drives do not cache data transfer to storage media when processing SCSI 1 commands whilst working in write mode.

As the MPC3000 uses SCSI 1 commands for file read/load and write/save operations.

With this in mind.

DISK, 9, 5.

Set Multi Sector Transfer Mode to OFF.

Re-format the card.

Try saving now.

Any success this time ?

Seems to be working again after formatting the card. I was going to erase it anyway so no harm done.

I've the same problem as you flextone. Did this solve your problem ? I did this before but didn't work. My Multi Sector Transfer Mode is set to OFF.

I'm going to try again tomorrow.

Rohan, what else could it be ? Any idea ? I think it could be the SCSI cable what do you think ?

Yes I reformated the card. Then tried it, it seems to work OK.

Then I moved the compact flash card reader case and the cable to check if the problem could come from here.

Impossible to save (same problem than explained earlier with error code 80).

By the way my compact flash reader is a "SPYRUS rd300 flash card reader writer"


So what's your opinion ? it must come from the cable, no ? where can I get a good one ?

is it this a SCSI-1 DB25-pin / SCSI-2 HD50-pin Cable I need to wire my MPC 3000 to SPYRUS rd300 ?

Bad cable perhaps ? Pretty common.

Not a problem. If it worked once then it can operate again.

Then just add a regular HD50<>HD50 SCSI cable.

Another method:

Get the cable that goes DB25<>HD50, pretty common and available off the net with minimal hunting.

That's what I have now I'm not superstitious but I'm going to do
