keyboard and mpc

can anybody explain me how to trigger a sound from mpc internal memory with my keyboard " Roland w-30" ?

midi i guess if so then

mpc midi out -> roland midi in
roland midi out -> mpc midi in

and make sure th ekeyboard is on the corrct midi channel ( 1-16), which has to be set on both machines, doesnt matter what type keyboard, as long as it has midi, and general midi is even better and free midi is best

You have to assign the MPC sound you want to play with the keyboard to a pad, & there will only be one key on the keyboard that will have the same midi number as that pad.

To test this make an MPC program with lots of sounds on lots of pads. Connect a midi cable from the OUT on your W30 to the IN on your MPC. Play the keyboard. You will notice that sounds on pad bank A get played by the keys on the left hand side of the keyboard.

dont use the handshake method with two midi cables.

JUST use one cable, Midi out on keyboar, and midi in on mpc! WOrks just like the pads then.

ya but i want to play different notes with my keyboard so the sound on my mpc will change each time i hit different notes on my keyboard. Is it possible ??

Not on the basic 2000, unless you have assigned the same sound to a lot of pads & then tuned them all differently.

You might be able to do it on the xl..... someone confirm.

Basically, the MPCs were designed as drum samplers, except for the 4000 which does have keybard mapping.

But.... isn't your Roland W30 that fairly old-school sampling workstation keyboard? Those are quite collectable. What you should do is stick with that for any chromatic sampling.

ya its a old school sequencer , what do you mean by chromatic sampling ?

no it cannot be done, without actually creating the program fist on the mpc; I.e. a program that contains the sound spread out with differant tuning.

You have to "auto Chromatic" it on the XL. Then use the keyboard like i said above!

Its a sampler thing, not a midi thing.


OH and then you need to make sure the midi notes of the pads, and sample tuning, correspond to the midi numbers of the keyboard.

I WOULD BUY ONE OF MPC-TUtors multisample packs for this! youll get some good sounds to use, but he also has created a program that all the midi notes correspond with! so, you just have to replace the actual samples in proper tuning.

last question : when i record my keybaord loop with mpc , the loop seems to be recorded on the mpc but played on the keyboard , will i be able to export the loop with my drum pattern just by saving all sounds on my mpc ?

if you sampled the loop into the mpc, then yes, it will save with the pgm. All the keyboard is doing, is transmiting control messages via midi. I.e. not actual audio, but just programing telling the mpc what to do.

Now if you sampled the loop into the keyboard; like if you owned a sampler keyboard such as the triton, or asr 10.......and hooked it up to the mpc via midi and controled it with the mpc sequencer. then you need to save both settings on the mpc, and on your keyboard.
