Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Ok. So my MPC2000 stopped functioning last night. No power, no light on the screen, nothing. Took it apart this morning. Removed the casing and the top panel holding all the buttons/pads. Didn't see anything super unique. Put it back together part way, the power came on, os loaded, everything worked fine. Put it together all the way, blank screen, no power, nothing. Last month I installed an internal scsi cf card reader that has been working great. Any ideas? This mpc is a bit of a Frankenstein... Maximum Respect.

OK I think I put it down to the power button. It jiggles side to side a little bit. I noticed jamming on this button, on/off, on/off over and over eventually turned the 2000 on. While on, a slight move of the power button turned it off. Anybody dealt with this before? Know where to pick up the part? Thanks

You may have a cold solder joint on the power switch.

You may not need to purchase a replacement. If you have a soldering iron, try reflowing the solder joints on the switch to secure it when it moves.

If you don't already own an iron and know how to solder, get one and learn. 20 watts will do fine. Rosin core solder. Also go to an alley and find a busted electronic thing and unsolder about 10-20 parts. Practice a bit so you aren't nervous. Essential skill.
