Recording Samples

Can some one tell me to record a sample while my beat is playing.
Example. I made a drum pattern. I wanted to record me playing my key board, but no drums while recording the key board so I can't stay on beat with drums.

Record a sample while your beat is playing.

When I go into sampling mode, the beat wont play

2k and 2kxl CANNOT play a sequence while in sample mode. You must use an external source to play along with..

This cannot be done. I'm not sure if any hardware sampler can record a new sample while it is playing back others.

You will need to do something like record a long section of your MPC beats onto tape, minidisc, computer or whatever, then play your keyboard in time to that while you sample it on the MPC.

I learned a really cool, trick when i first got my mpc2000, if you got anything other thenn a mpc4000 invest in a metronome. Its allows you to plug your keyboad in direct and play a phase and the sample will always be on time

The Roland MC-909 can.

im sure the 1000 can do an audio mix down.

but what about hooking up your keyboard via midi? and just recording the midi.

Just record your sequence to the mpc usin' the overdub.And like cyrus said you can use the midi just make sure you change the track data.
