I've been offered a 2000xl. Need some advice.

Sup dudes. I was offered a 2000xl today for a nice price. Originally I was looking for a 60, but I think I'm turning into a bit of a collector because I'm considering the 2000xl aswell.

I have the 1000 (hate those pads!) and the 2500 SE. What difference can I expect with a 2000xl? Or is it just an older version of the 2500?

Not looking for any in depth discussion, just a few pros and cons.

IMO, XL has the best combo of features, build quality and sound. Overall, Akai's closest shot at perfection. I would get a 60/3000 for the sound, but that bad boy aint moving out of your studio and you dont have waveform editing. Build quality on the XL shits all over 500/1000/2500/5000, but you lack features that are pretty useful in the maxed JJOS. I dont know about the 4000 because its the only one I havent touched.

A new screen for an XL is (NEXT TO, thanks SMC!!) impossible to find though, keep that in mind!

There's no waveform editing on the 2000xl or did you mean the 60 ... or both? Although that's not really an issue. Even with the 2500 I like to chop by ear.

I only use the basic JJOS on my MPC's so I won't be missing much. Only problem is I have to do a 2 hour train journey to collect it. I think I'll do it. Only thing I need to finish the studio off is the 60 and the SP1200 .... for collection and hobby purposes.

yeah it has waveform editing... the machine is all around good. It may not have lots of features , however everything it does.... it does well (besides time stretch simply because it takes a while)

Yeah, the only completely useless function is "resample", I use timestretch ALL the time. Resample makes Timestrech feel like nanoseconds.

Eg: I "resampled" a 2 bar loop, only changing the bit rate to 12 and sample rate to 25000hz, this was @ 3 in the afternoon. I went grocery shopping around 6pm, when I came back, still working. When I woke up the next morning for work it was still doing its resample thing. Just before 7:30 am it finished processing. I still cant get over that shit. That was the last time I ever attempted a resample

Lmao! Thanks for the heads up on that one!

If you have the 2500 already I think the only difference you're going to see is that the 2000xl's pads are on the right side of the machine.

I'm not sure why the 2000's are an abberation in the line....this setup feels much better than having the pads on the left or in the center...maybe I'm just biased.

yeah jonestown, that is why I stayed away from things that took processing time.... lol...

oh by the way, the resample he is talking about is not resampling like what you would do on other models, but it is it's own feature where you can alter bitrate and stuff like that.

I've been looking around for a while and the 2000XL seem cheap anyway. After some consideration I am going to hold out for a 60 or an SP1200 (both are ****ing hard to get hold of in the UK).

ahh yep, that is also a great move. I would do the same.

The mpc 2000xl is just a comfortable price ...a mpc 60 I would pass on and a sp 1200 I would stay clear away from

that is absurd... the comfortable price of the 2000xl is in the same ball park as a 60... except which one sounds better and is built better?

as for the 1200, he can get what he payed for it plus he could make loads of dope beats until then.
