Hi to all MPC3000 users :)

I am trying to figure out how to
use MPC3000 3.11 as a Master sequencer
triggering MPC1000 JJOS 2XL and Akai S950

the goal is to use MPC3000 timing and swing
and use extra features of MPC1000 like:
track mutes , loop triggering mode, multiple layering
on one pad, etc....

is it at all possible when MPC1000 is in a Slave mode?

use midi port outs from mpc3000 to midi ins of 1000 and 950

each channel per midi cable can be used, thus controlling 16 sounds total on each.

very possible.

it wasn't as easy to hook MPC1000 as a slave to MPC3000 for recording as i thought..

The (EXT)Sync works great , and MPC1000 plays the recoded track but it has to
be recorded on the MPC1000 iself first
and i have to manually set the number of bars and loop on....
so i can record into MPC1000 ....
but i need to record into MPC3000
using MPC1000 as kind of MIDI keyboard sound module ?

having trouble finding the right MIDI channels to match
between the two to be able to record the MIDI track into MPC3000
from the MPC1000 - so the 3000 will control the swing and timing?

MY Setup:
MPC3000 MIDI out to MPC1000 MIDI IN
MPC1000 MIDI out to MPC3000 MIDI IN

what are the channel settings on each to match ?

sorry if my questions may sound confusing....

In the same way you hit a pad and it plays a sound... when you have an external midi note sent, it triggers the sound. Figure out which pad is which on the 1000 first.

To record your notes. It is best to send cables back to the 3k from the 1.

here is a better explanation:

MIDI out 3k to midi in 1000
midi out 1k to midi in 3k

second chain:

midi out (any you choose) to 950

this setup you can choose midi track on 3k when recording... tap sounds on 1k, and the 3k will record the notes.

therefore, the 3k is actually triggering the 1k realtime, instead of just telling it to "startplay"

since the 950 has no real functional use to send any midi data for all intensive purposes (since the 3k can do it all as master) there is no need to have a return cable from that back to the 3k)

you will have to fumble thru it until you find the best midi setup for you, but keep in mind, with all these machines, you can set any sound, pad, or "key" to any midi note. and you can set any track to send or "control" any external midi capable device, and respectively, you can tell any track to "listen" to any midi channel you wish, )or effectively record the notes in other words).

Thanks for your tips Grublet,
I have done exactly that connection between the 1000 and the 3K
for now only testing setup between these two before going to
configure the S950 in the second chain.

So far I have menaged , by trial and error,
to record 1st MIDI track on 3K that triggers sounds on the 1000
and 2nd DRUM track on 3K triggering its own drums,
BUT when i add 3rd MIDI track on 3K trying to trigger 2nd track with another program on the 1000 the MPC1000 does only plays both tracks with only one program
even though i believe that i've matched the MIDI channels on both machines.... ???

how to properly configure both MPC's internal MIDI routing to be able to use MPC1000 multitimbrally
driven by MPC3000?

here are the screenshots of my current MIDI configuration,

thanks again for your help guys

1. MIDI channel Settings on the MPC1000 set to ALL same as on the MPC3000
Image

2. MPC3000 main screen with selected MIDI channel 1A for the MIDI track 1
Image

3.MPC1000 main screen Midi channel 1A with sampled Rhodes ----- this track and program triggers
well from the MPC3000 when i record it into MPC3000.

Image

4. The 2nd track with a different Program (Bass) on MPC1000 set to MIDI channel 2A
Image

5. The Same track on the MPC3000 set to the same MIDI channel 2A
but the sound on all tracks on 1000 switches to only currently selected program (BASS)..
so the 1 (rodes) track and 2nd (bass) sound like Bass istead op playing
both tracks multitimbrally......
it should be possible, am i missing something it my MIDI routing?

The mpc 1000 isnt multimbral . External MIDI will only trigger the currently selected track. The only mpc's that can do what your trying are the 2000xl and the 4000,( not sure about the 5000). You need to record the notes into the 1000 if you want to hear different pgm's on different tracks, (of course you can record notes triggered from the 3000 on these tracks if you want too).

exactly, working inside one program is the way to go.

sequence everything in the 3k, and sample and chop and assign whatever you want in the 1000, just keep it in one program.

Is there a way to use the second midi port in, to allow control of a second program?

I was trying to figure this out last night in my head...

if you open window in the program screen,

it lets you set up PC values

i think this is program control. if you read up on this, it may be possible to control multiple programs at once, but like the previous guy said, it isn't multitimbral.

aha... that's wat it is, now I've learned something 'bout
my MPC1000 limitations...
didn't know that it isn't multitimbral...
cause it could record and play lots of
tracks and programs simultaniously as stanalone or Master..
thanks for clearing that up.

don't know yet wat are PC values, gonna check them out
also will check the second midi port....

but realized that from now on I will have to create a new
single program on the MPC1000 in order to use it as a Slave to
MPC3000...

yeah its a limitation of most mpc's. At first I thought the 1000 would be able to do that too because you can use multiple pgms internally at the same time . unfortunately the extra midi port wont effect this behaviour either,

regarding program changes, im fairly confident that the mpc doesnt respond to external pc changes in this way either.you set up the pc numbers for internal pgm switching.

you can set it up so an external pc will change the sequence though. So you could have different pgms on the same track in different sequences, if you wanted to use a different collection of sounds for certain sections of a track.

Thanks Mikolo,
now I guess I figured the best scenario on how I should use the
best of the two MPC's together:

Drums n beats to be programned on MPC3000 ( great timing and sound)
Additional tracks containing musical samples with EQ' and FX, track mutes
& Audio tracks : recorded and prigrammed on the MpC1000
that is just Synced to MPC3000 to start / stop playing ....

that way I could use the best of both worlds?
