Organizing samples, sequences and songs on ZIP DISKS.....

I need some assistance with the ZIP 100 backup. I'm using an MPC-60 II and i've got my SCSI ZIP connected. For those of you who are currently using ZIP (elmacaco) for quicker access and maximized space, how do you recommend i organize my samples, sequences and songs. My concern is with saving songs and sequences. Do I have to create 20 partitions or do I only do a few? I just don't want to have to sift through 100s of samples to find 1 specific hi-hat. I think that is one of the advantages of using the floppy disk. Easy organization. But its rather slow when loading up. I was in the studio recording 3 beats and my S950 beat out the MPC-60 II when loading by 10-15 seconds. Well. I'm at work. Gotta bounce. Thanks. Peace.

well it depends on how you work. I tend to make a kit use it, then leave it in the dust. I don't go through my old samples much.

20 partitions lets you maximize space if you use full programs of 64 samples, but in general it helps you keep organized on virtual 5 meg floppies (partitions) you're only allowed 224 files per partition, so with bigger ones you'll hit the limit before you run out space.

I usually fit 3 programs and samples and an all file for each as well as additional all files for developed songs in a partition with no problems.

I name the samples and program with common factors so I know what pgm they belong too.

So I should be saving each program to it's own partition to keep things organized? I have a problem with my SAVE ALL DATA. The damn disk loads up the wrong program and the wrong songs its chaotic. I went into the studio on saturday and spent like 15 minutes loading from floppy only to find that I recorded the wrong sequences the wrong samples and the wrong song from my ALL set. I ahve a few that say ALL. ALL

Nah, a 5 Meg partition will have room for 3 full PGM's and All files for each song or all together.

you should name your samples and programs and all files with tags to link them. Like If I sample James brown for all my samples, I'll name it JBBD1 (James Brown Bass Drum 1) or JBSD1 JBHH1, JBTOM1, etc. THen your program is JB****** and your All File is JB SEQS or something. If you have an ALl file of a particular song, you name it JB Songtitle or whatever, that way you know what sequence goes with what PGM.

Each Partition will hold about 3 sets of these arrangements. When done to 20 (T) 5 Meg partitions.
