midi sync

Before I start I would like to say that I know I posted a question that was similar to this in the ableton thread but I have more questions so I might as well put them here.

I have finally got to grips with mpc2500 + ableton midi sync, I have got the the stage where I can record 16 different midi tracks onto my mpc using sounds from within ableton but I have hit a brick wall when it comes to the metronome. basically if I hit overdub and play on the mpc the 4 beat count in will begin so it's 1-2-3-4-kick-hat-snare for example...

the problem is is that the ableton metronome wont begin until the hi-hat. I have tried changing settings under preferences-midi sync then midi sync clock delay and mtc start offset but nothing seems to change the ableton metronome from starting a beat too late.

ok, next question which I'm not AS bothered about because I've only had ableton for 48 hours so I'm sure I'll get my head around it at some point but say I record a midi track into ableton using my mpc's pads, then I edit the hit points such as move, delete duplicate, edit velocities etc, is there then a simple way to get that back into the mpc as a midi track?

I've come across 2 ways of recording midi tracks using abletons sounds etc, the easiest for me is to use the mpc's sequencer but it would also be nice to use abletons sequencer because it seems much quicker to edit events only I have to wait until I've sorted out this metronome issue because I'm always missing the first hit.

I hope that you can understand at least some of this. I really am trying but it seems that I've gone from dusty to digital in about 10 minutes, last week I spent half my time diggin through charity shop records an this week I seem to of spent half my time staring at a 13'' mac screen looking at a program that I don't even understand.

I thought of a more simple way to put it.....

basically if I record a simple 4 bar sequence using midi sync both into ableton and the mpc at the same time and I go off the mpc metronome count in everything will be fine on the mpc end but the midi notes in ableton will be missing the first kick. If I go off the ableton metronome everything will be fine in ableton but the mpc will be missing the first kick mean that play start would leave my mpc sequences coming in on the 2nd beat which would normally be a high hat.

Come to think of it it's not a massive deal because I'm happy to always sequence in the mpc but it's just nice to know whats going (what I'm doing wrong).

on a side note, does anyway know where the pad mute or sound mute function is on ableton, I've found it for piano, I know it's under voices and you simply select how many voices you would like but just a bit ago I was using a british drum kit and I wanted the whole kit to be poly as some hats were muting other hats but I couldn't find it for the life of me.
