but it's not as immediate and intuitive way of getting the sound

The 3k is the type of machine that you should KNOW without a doubt it's "limitations" are for you. If fact, The limitations I personally found in the 3k were only "covered" in pairing it up with an s-3000xl rack sampler.
For people considering the switch from 1k to 3k strictly for the "sound" aspect of these units, I would suggest getting an older rack-mount akai sampler. A pretty low cost solution with lots flexibility. And they play well with any MPC you got.

I use MPC1000 JJ OSXL for extra features (Audio Tracks, Track mutes, FX, etc) MIDI synced to MPC3000 LE that drives
the Swing , drums and most of the sounds.
The MPC3000 has something about the way it handles the beats .... donno what it is
but it sounds and "swings" way better than the MPC1000 .....
even though it lucks most of the extra features on the JJOS ... its still a far more superior and solid machine IMHO, and my 1st MPC was MPC1000
maybe its just my subjective opinion?

No Need 2 Prove You Wrong...
I too am a believer in the very elusive "swing" theory. But I've also considered that the 3k's swing can be coming from something many people overlook.
Mainly what my post was trying to say is that the 3k should be reserved for users who fully understand what they are getting into, while the 1k is a great MPC for damn near anybody. And as I said if it's strictly 3k "sound" that your after, an older rack Akai is a way better look for the price point and functionality.
