Switching from soft sampler to MPC, the good choice ?

Hi all !

just wondered who take that decision and why ? do you think it's still a good choice ?


i'm waiting for my first MPC ever !!! as i decided to make it the center of my studio in coordination with a computer, i can't really tell now what effects it's going to have on my music production and of course i'm expecting a lot of it ! but can you guys share your experience ? do you have any regrets ? have you ever look back on software samplers and computer based DAW ?

the thing is with musical instruments more than everything else, you gotta find what suits you

you gotta try it, maybe you won'tlike it and you will love the MV 8000 or whatever

just try it out and then make your own opinion, no one plays music the same way, no one makes the same music...

A good computer with a good soundcard can be a very good sampler, syntheziser.
I use my MPC for sequencing and sampling and use me laptop for synths, sampling and multitracking.

i think you'll be using both the cpu and the mpc.

i edit on the computer and transfer via aksys to program and filter. the cpu has many advantages for FX and large screen editing. the mpc offers no lag input sequencing and 'hands on' editing.

i think that if you don't have to sell your other gear, the mpc will marry well with the rest of your fam of gear.

I had one heck of a time trying to figure out how to operate the 4k to begin with, and now realize I was just reading too much into it and overthinking the obvious. However, with the capabilities of this machine, I have recently discovered it's true potential. So, in a nutshell here it is: With the MPC 4000, if you can think it, you can create it. The only limitation is you!

Apart from having a few financial probs at the moment I love my mpc (I have decided that unless I'm held at gunpoint for the mpc it will be the last piece of studio equipment to go).

Sampling was mainly done in my pc but now its a both stations that get attention. What I can say about the 4k is it is a pure experience recording without looking into a monitor. I myself actualy listen more to what I'm putting in. The pc seems to make me feel a little lazy where as the mpc is tactile plus its the best for live.

i was running cubase and vsampler.
vsampler is fantastic, about #45:00 UK
and i had it running happily using direct x so it
recognised my internal and extra 8 out soundcards giving
me 10 analog outs!.
it was very fast to load etc, but frankly, after crashes, lock ups etc etc,
i couldn't be arsed with the computer any more , so ditched it for stand alone.
I still prefer the cubase side of things, but am happy to concentrate more on my MPC box. Portable too!.
Im generally all in favour of dedicated hardware, as I havent found a bit of software or computer that actually does anything new or original.
I just thank the almighty that I dont have to work on pro tools in my job.

just wondered, for those that also use a computer, do you have a seperate mixjng desk or do you output the mpc4k into the soundcard ins?

I have the SPDIF out of the MPC4000 going directly into my soundcard. My plan is to get the ADAT card and take 8 channels into the soundcard.
