Nah man, I can't tell the difference. I mean the 5K has strength and is the only MPC with the ability to swing triplets but the 4000 can swing beats too. If anything, the strength feature is a way to humanize robotic beat patterns, but again, once it's transferred to the DAW, you can move- say a kick drum- less than a *unt-hair to the left or right. Could anyone tell the difference? I believe there are some people who can, but I'm not one of them. My beats still swing like a pendulum anyway.

I think the others can swing triplets but cant swing with quantize off... and yeah on DAW you can get higher resolutions on a DAW for sure... no question. I dont know if swing is a real valid selling point these days, but maybe back in 1992 or something it may have been a nice feature that you couldn't get anywhere else.

I have used an old baldwin organ from the 70's that had some drum stuff on it... and there was a button for swing that you could turn on and off. The swing simply moved the 5th and 13th beat over to like... 7 and 15. when you turned it off it went back to normal.... so if you look at that type of swing then you see the mpc type of swing it must have been thought as a huge deal.

yeah :p i was kinda disappointed when i noticed i cant 'apply swing' without quantising.. (i think... ive had my mpc since july and i still haven found time to properly start on it..)

yeah I know what you mean... I dont know why it isn't possible... probably just the way the mpc does the calculations. However I dont use it often, sometimes you just gotta take off the quantize and really just put the drum sound right where it needs to be the manual way... I mean not always but sometimes the sample you flipped calls for it.

well I dont know.... maybe I just dont care cause I got a 60... and its only something you need when you dont got it.. O.o

just remember, swing is not sound quality, or some sort of impossible to obtain feature... it is simply notes placed on a time line... you can make that on a yamaha rx-17.. lmao.. okay not quite but you know what i mean.
