MPC 2000XL + Macbook/Reason/Cubase

Hey Guys,
im a proud owner of the MPC 2000 XL.
Im currently mastering my tracks through adjusting the volume of HiHat, Kick etc directly on the MPC.

As we all know its pretty hard to do a nice mastering though this solution
I´m now searching for a way to do it on my macbook with Cubase or Reason.

I once saw a video on youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dXCsSwDDpI ) where that dude is using a sort of midi-usb connection to his pc.
From what I know MIDI is only sending the singals, not the audio.
How is he then transfering the audio from MPC to PC?

What equipment do I need for that.
Can I maybe just solve that problem with USB interface?

I would be so thankful for any answers !

Ideally, you would use the 8-output card and track each instrument into cubase via 1/4" cables into a usb or firewire audio interface.

If you don't have or want the 8-outs, you can track each instrument one track at a time via 1/4" cables from the main outs.

Unfortunatley I do not have a 8 outs card.

Anyway I think the guy in the video doesn´t even use his 8 outs isnt it?
How is transferring the audio from the mpc to pc and what equipment is he using for his midi connecting from mpc to pc?

The 8-outs is not necessary, just nice to have.
He is only using MIDI from protools to Sync the MPC with ProTools. He explains this in the video. He also says the name of the equipment for doing this (the 'Uno').

However, MIDI is 100% unrelated to getting the audio into protools.

Coincidentally, he tracks things out exactly as mentioned without the 8-outs (track each instrument one track at a time via 1/4" cables from the main outs...this is exactly how he talks about doing it in the video when he says "...solo each track"...).
On the MPC2KXL, you would do this by turning all your tracks on, hitting 'SOLO' on the first one, recording it, then going to the next track, soloed, and recording that. Repeat as necessary.
You then align these clips in different tracks and mix from there in Cubase.

To record audio (not really 'transferring' in the modern day use of the word), you need a sound card / audio interface. You need one with 1/4" ins.
You could also hack it with a dual 1/4" to single stereo 1/8" and plug it into your computers line/mic input, but the quality is going to suck.

Research sound cards. If you come across something you don't understand, copy/paste into google and keep going.
You could probably type 'how do I get an audio signal into my computer?' into google and get some decent hits.
One example is an Edirol FA-101.

^^^ this post is dead on, as far as reason goes unless uhave record u wont use it to master thars wt cubase is for, sound card wise i woukd suggest a presonus firestudio project...flawless for the $$$

Im so impressed that this guy can handle his MPC through using the play/record button on his PC.

To summarize his main equipment for that is:
1. M Audio Uno Midiport
2. Interface
3. Pro Tools
right?

Can I do the same with Cubase aswell?

1. midisport for midi sync (so you hit play in computer and mpc also plays)
2. audio interface for recording
3. any daw (cubase, protools, logic, reaper, etc)

most audio interfaces have midi built in.
