Nope, it's not a full sampler so you don't get a fully fleshed adsr or envelope depth and alot of other features that full fledged samplers have.

1. full fledged samplers? some examples?

2. i guess on the mpc2000xl, the only way of getting rid of the hat on the kick is using the onboard EQ?

3. for the standard boombap, i usually quantize so the hat and the kickwithhihat usually fall on the same beat 1 & 3 so it doesn't bother me as much other then the fact that i hear 2 hats on those beats. im just going to try using lpf lower velocity for the 1/6th "pickup" kicks to keep the hats just straight 1/8ths.

4. for more dilla style drums, i feel like i just can't have the hat on the kick. i need the kick to be clean because i don't want the kick to have the hi hat hitting at the same time which is the case with a kickwithhihat.

5. i feel like a lot of drumbreaks have a hat on the kick because that's just how drummers play. are there examples of beats with a kickwithhihat? i feel like a lot of producers just use a track with clean kicks, snare, and hi hats on top of that. but sometimes when i listen to rza, dj krush, dj cam, some more raw breakbeat oriented artists, i feel like i hear them use the method peterthepipe presented. (the method where you just don't play the hat on the steps where the kickwithihhat are.) i guess that's why they are pros and have the experience, it just all meshes and flows so well.

^ are the hi hats not played in the steps there are a kick? the kick sounds like a kickwithhihat because the hat on the kick sounds different and quieter than hat on the & of 2, pretty much the hat after the snare.

sorry if im being a squareass and putting up questions as pointers and shit like we're in a classroom, i'm just trying to be articulate in my questions presented in this forum. just trying to get a lesson, i'm just hungry and these questions have been subconsciously been bugging me back from my beats sounding the way i want. i get the concept, but all these technical aspects of making a beat sometimes hold me back from what i want. none of my homies make beats so this forum is my only mpc community and for that, big ups and good looks!

hope this helps. :)

I suspect this helped a lot of us. If you know of any examples - you tube or elsewhere do let us know.

Otherwise. Credit for a great answer, I reckon I know what I'll be spending time on over the next few months.

surprising how many people don't seem to know that you can actually use filter envelopes and adsr to change the way the samples act...
