That's WAAAYY too overpriced for an UPGRADE. $600 for new users, ok, but to $349 to upgrade from PT8 after I already spent $400 on the MBox?? GTFOH! I'll use Logic instead. Its got instruments in there already, and you can use any interface also.
Its schyt like this that increases piracy. People are tired of constantly forking out hard earned money on items that will be obsolete in 6 months to a year. Will the PT10 upgrade be another $350?

it's $250 to upgrade if you're going from LE 8 to PT 9, and $350 is you're going from MP 8 to PT 9

That HD native 9 is all I need. I remember saying to myself long ago that this day would come to pass. I look at it like this, if retail is going for whatever they're asking, I'm sure you'll find a few merchants selling galobs for much less than that.

Plus going from proprietary to open source makes more sense. But like what was previously stated, it is to be seen how far this will go before it's out on the black market.

yea the upgrade is a little expensive but it is what it is.

now if they really listened, they'd get rid of these ridiculous ilok devices, I had an ilok malfunction on me a few weeks ago and it was really pitiful.

Why exactly is everyone excited about this? Pro Tools is a long-in-the-tooth DAW that peaked in the 90s. It still doesn't support VST. It does NOTHING that Logic, Cubase, DP...even Energy XT or Reaper can't do. This is some Emperors New Clothes shit.

although they are behind in terms of open formats they are what ppl consistantly recommend for editing... and thats the key... if im not mistaken you know have the power to share diffenet DAW files with protools and not have anyproblems... b4 this was a program that ran a few hundred bucks... so for cats that are using different daws that lead back to a engineer that runs protools i can see the happiness cuz it eliminates extra steps...

^^^ What he said. But I'm curious to know how well this "file interchange support" system works. It's more of the integration and file swapping between daws that I'd like to know more about.

As far as I can tell this is a post production type of benefit - PT 9 now supports OMF/AFF and MXF files - used primarily for audio/video

So you can now easily collaborate with users who use other audio / video software - Final Cut for example

I doesn't mean that PT can now open Logic files or sessions etc - as far as i'm aware

So I already have PT still on 6.3(yeah I know), and was thinking about copping Logic here in a few weeks. My question is this; Is this a better all in one or should I just go ahead and rock with logic. I like the fact that logic has a bunch of vsts..

Logic doesn't support VST either, it uses Audio Units. I think maybe you mean you like that it has a bunch of instrument and effect plugins native to it?

My bad, that's exactly what I was meaning.

This is a big plus, but, I'm confused. PT 9 has eliminated all Pro Tools LE, so why have they just come out with a new Mbox 3? Before, Native referred to LE. TDM and HD were in the HD category? Now, everything is Native? Why would anyone buy an Mbox?

money-the software comes with it-the mbox line gets the job done. won't see them in a pro studio but they're in many, many home studios across the world! still a market for people like me who don't require all the ins and outs
