which version? i only rock the free one. i have enough money for an upgrade, the question is: do i need one?

Yes you do need one, and seeing as you have to pay for XL, you might as well start at the top and see how you get on.

It's a worthwhile investment.

Why do people always have to start talking about the MPC 2500 & 5000, when the topic is the MPC 4000. I won't touch any MPC under Akai/Numark. In my opinion they are all junk. (It's always a dreamy eyed newby who starts that sh$t. & my MPC's don't need a JJ OS.)

Now, back to the topic. I remember when fell in love with her. I was rocking a 2000xl that was maxed out and I just put a new screen in it. I had seen her before, but thought she was over rated. I went into the Guitar Center and started talking to my boy Scott, and he swore it was the truth. He started showing me ins and outs, and had tohave it. Scott held it for me. I went home and grabbed my 2000xl and went right back to GC with $700, I bought the MPC 4000. I must admit when the 4000 came out I was intimidated by it. The big screen, the hard drive, just the size and the price of it. But the more I got used to it, it was the the same as my 2000xl. I could still load all my samples, programs, multis and sequences. A friend of mine told me to get the MV8000, but I'm all MPC. My loyalty to Akai went out the window when Numark took over. Akai dropped the MPC4000 line and came out with the 1000, 2500, & 5000. It made my 4000 more valuable. Since then, I have purchased an MPC 60II and 2- 3000's. And I am still looking for a 3000le. The 3000 & 4000 are my favorites.

New does not always mean better. My first MPC was a 2000xl. I had a friend who had an MPC 60 and really thought his MPC was junk and that my unit was better. I learned hard way that the 60 was more powerful, it only lacked some of the new features. ( Just like when you buy a new car, they are not putting cassette decks in them. Only CS's.)

Your posts are 50 times less relevant than someone talking about current machines, so bare this in mind when you're discussing your MPC 'collection'.

I have to say just for my own self, over the past month I've made more music and been happier doing it. I know a big part of that is because I've free from Macs and PC's to actually make the music. Again I've been using MPC's since about 17 or so, but I got all wrapped up into the "do it all on the laptop / desktop etc . . ."

These machines are made for people like me, I'm happy to be in the 4000 fold! The 3000 is still great, but I can't do what I can on a 4000!!! And I may be done with PC's / Macs for a while. Tempted to get a 5000 just because of the DAW like capabilities.

Anyway, just spreading some good news.

i'm asking about the mpc 4000 you muppet. if you don't like people learning then get off of the forum!!

I love my 4k too and always will. Plus I wonder what the actual number is of folks that owned a 4k early on, got rid of it, now are finding out what a jewel this thing really is. But what I've observed with folks is...they won't give themselves a chance to understand whatever they're involved with to blossom.

It's one thing to get a grasp of learning the ins & out of the equipment you're using, but it's another thing when you're in the "tow" meaning you're more of a follower rather than an explorer who understands what it is they're dealing with.

Excuse me if I may offend anybody that feels they might fit this shoe, but there's a lot of shallow minds out here that apparently fall short on the intellect side of things.

Some need the training wheels longer than others, or they may need them for the rest of their lives (meaning the short bus).

All I'm saying is..."It is what it is".
