A toy. pssshhh

So I've been making beats for a little under a year and I was really into the MPCs and I got the 500 in the summer and I don't know why everyone thinks its a toy cause it is definately not. I love the little guy, I take it everywhere with me and pretty powerful. Although I don't have anything to compare it too, I still love it. I'm looking to get a 2000xl soon. Do you guys think that I should do that? or should I get a newer model? I've just been wonderin that for quite sometime. And I have done research on newer and older MPCs I just have a thing for older gear. Thanks for any feedback.

also, yeah maybe an older mpc might be cool... I mean IMO you get unlimited features from DAW programs like reason, fl studio, logic, etc however there is something to be said when it comes to the oldschool mpcs particularly the roger linn models.

Compare the features of the 2000XL to the features of the newer models. Get which ever best suits your needs.

Since you mastered the 500, the 2000XL will be a piece of cake to learn. But research the specs and capabilities and see what features you need and what you can live without. Every MPC has features that the other models don't, so beware into thinking they all got the same features because they don't.

Thanks for the feedback and Im definately gonna cop that ep! I think im going to get the 2000xl but if I see a 3000 for a good price I am going to get that instead. What about the 60? The only thing that turns be away from it is that there isn't a low pass filter.

Get a mpc 3000 or 60. Your already used to having limited view.

Yeah that makes since since I was going to get a mixer to record my beats and my vocals into. Do you have any suggestions on good mixers?

yeah, not beringer. Some people have luck with those, but I find the mixer to be a fairly important component to the rig and its something you move parts on so maybe you want to get something better quality then "hunk of trash". That is just my opinion though so dont take it as 100% fact. I suggest the usual names, mackie, A&H, studiomaster, sound craft...

however in the DJ mixer realm I wont even comment beyond name dropping rane since I have a friend who has been scratching for over a decade and told me they are the best... I have no clue about dj mixers.

Damn, so no behringer? I was looking at the XENYX line because it has usb connectivity but i guess I'll look at other ones. I just got a little cheap stanton mixer which isnt great but i just wanted to start scratching and i didnt have much money. Oh and by the way im only fifteen so money plays a big factor in what gear I get. haha

well if you want to record, i would look elsewhere. You should keep your eyes peeled on craigslist... you can get a second hand mackie for the price of a new behringer and it will be better imo... plus you're young... imagine how sweet it would be if you got a mixer you would still wanna use years from now

yeah check around the studio environments section at some threads because there are a lot of threads suggesting specific models for mixers. I will say this though, lets say you see one on craigslist that falls into the "possibility category" ... well throw the model name into google and check a few reviews and stuff like that. I suggest checking at least 2 or 3 links from the first page of results.... make sure it isn't a bad model.

then check ebay, and search craigslist in cities such as NYC or LA where there are millions of people to see if people are selling the same model so you can compare prices.... never be afraid to bargain down prices within reason. At 15 money is tough and if are that serious about getting your setup happening then every penny adds up to the next piece of gear you need for the rig... that shit never ends. you will always see something else that helps your rig.

Yeah im pretty serious about getting my setup going cause my setup now consists of an mpc 500, stanton mixer, technics quartz SL-Q202, Acid Pro and my records. Do you use the 60 or the 60ii?
