Basic Setup of Equipment need wit mpc4000 to produce sound?

All i have is a mpc4000, keyboard, and speakers.. is their anything besides the cables i will need to purchase for me to produce sound from my speakers?

depends if they're powered speakers or not, if they're not, you'll need an amplifier

Thanks, yeah i have stardard passive speakers so i guess i need amp... will my guitar amp work? .... I also have a Optimus Concertmate 990 Electronic Keyboard which is not hooked up to the mpc yet because I don't have the MIDI cables (<- do i need any certain cables?)

dude, read the manual of your mpc, and use google search for your speakers. come on, using a guitar amp for your speakers? depending on what (out of the 10 million possible models) guitar amp you have you might be able to without modification... but who knows if the wattage is good... or if it will sound good (probably not) and plus you would want to run a line in to the amp and not the usual instrument level in the amp was designed for.....

how can you be aware enough to get the most high end mpc model and not have any awareness of any of your music gear? Get into those manuals for your gear man... they will even have diagrams showing how the pieces need to be hooked up.

Yeah i know, your right man, i need to experiment and find out on my own, the only way im going to learn (the right way). There's some things i'm not sure of and just dont want to spend my money on somthing and find out it doesn't work.. (like the wrong cables/speakers).

For a basic set up, as I understand you, you'll need trs to rca cables, an amp, speaker wire and speakers on the mpc side. The cables are cheap at radioshack, and Id hit every goodwill you can find for an amplifier. I see them all the time for around or under 20 bucks.

As for the keyboard, you'll need the wires a quick look at that page and the picture was too pixelated, i couldn't tell the jack type. You'll need 2 midi cables for complete control, which is what Id do cuz why not at this point. Hook the out jack on the mpc to the in jack on the keyboard, and the out jack on the keyboard to the in jack on the mpc. That can create some confusion at first. And then, here's where the fun comes in. If you want to sample from your keyboard into your mpc (maybe to apply the mpcs effects or whatever), you are going to need a way to split the audio cable coming from your keyboard. so you may also want to look for a set of Y adapters from radioshack. Basically, they let you send one signal two places (the amp and the mpc). Then, the other way that this can be done, if you want to also sample from a comp or turntable, is through the amp, but I cant give specifics without knowing the amp. Hope that helps man. Remember, this ish is supposed to be fun, don't get too discouraged. We were all where you were at one point, and it'll only get more frustrating yet also more rewarding from here.

This is a great site to learn all the basics. Try out the newbie section also. Plus the getting started forum where this post is going. Basicially for setting up all mpcs recording system are the same. When you have progress to the point of using the unit more in depth ask away. P.S. In your users manual on pages 3 or 4 you can see a basic audio playback setup system all mpc manuals have this in the first pages.
