i somehow deleted all songs.

how is that possible?
it wasn't by formatting all my samples are available and most my sequences are missing.
it asked me at one point when loading one project when previously being in it if i wanted to clear all data and i did.
is that possible that may have caused it?
i'd like to know because i don't want to ever do it again!!!

if this wasn't clear enough i don't know how to explain it frustrated, but guessing i'll just be more careful next time and make sure that i don't mess around too much with button pressing when loading new projects.

and if anything i'll just make better beats. ha ha.

I suggest that you create a folder for each project, do this first before you begin working on a project and then save all project data in the project folder.

When sequences & programs are created the mpc uses a standard way of naming them, unless you rename. So by default two different projects could have the same sequence & program names among them. It sounds like you saved a project (sequences, programs, samples) and it wrote on top of previous files names which were the same.

Yeah, you have manually save samples on the 500. I'm guessing that you recorded some samples and then loaded the programs which will erase everything you sampled already. Just sample and save, get into the habit.

But hey, to cheer you up, here's another Easter egg for your 500:

When recording samples, hit Play. This will play your sequence and record samples at the sametime, so if you play guitar or whatever, you can jam along and record it in realtime. When your ready to sample, hit Do It.

YES! And if you save it this way, you can not only keep the default file names because each beat has its own folder, but you will also be able to LOAD BEATS IN ONE QUICK SWOOP by going to Load: Folder. Much easier than naming every little file, and you don't have to worry about saving over a project. Much more efficient this way.

Oh but I just need to add: It is still a good idea to name as many things as you can, samples, sequences, tracks, songs.

One issue I used to have was I would load a beat, make some changes, but when it's time to save it, I forgot the folder/beat name... I have fixed this by immediately creating a SONG and NAMING THE SONG the name of the folder. Then when I forget the name, I will refer to the song.

I feel that is AN IMPORTANT FEATURE that must have been overlooked, and is missing from the OS... to be able to see the name of the project you loaded!!!!!

Does anyone else have that issue, or is there a way to see the project name after it is loaded? Am I missing something? Prob. right under my nose right?
