I'm sure you're up to speed on such things but i'm only just starting to look into it. It's such a minefield trying to get a decent laptop for music, so getting a MBP with Parallels running for my old projects seems like a good option.
yeah well with minimal tweaking is the thing... the problem I find with laptops in the PC side of things is.... the market is ruled by OEM manufacturers (aka rip off garbage vendors) such as dell, acer, etc... we dont have the strongest feature of PCs... part customization. Man, you want a tower, put a part list together and get the best of the best. In laptops you are stuck with a bunch of integrated shit packed into a brick.
I think if you looked hard enough and did some research you could find a machine with good enough specs that you could tweak it to your needs. check the support of the model in question for what OS support it has... can you download machine specific drivers for more then just the current OS (for linux, windows xp, etc) or what?
I have a not too great dell laptop that is a couple of years old and you can not get chipset drivers for any OS besides vista and even the chipset manufacturer will not let you know what other drivers can be used... they wont even provide any solutions because they are under contract from dell not to.
I dont like when companies sell you something and try to force you to use the product the way they want you to use it.
protools did that, apple did that, dell did it, sony did it with the ps3 OS update that prevents multiboot, etc... digital facists.
I am really hoping more developers start considering linux as an available platform... they are already closer then they think simply by writing software for apple computers.
