Alright this is more of a review guys, but Imma tell my insight so far. Together both combined are powerful and work well but this is for comparison sake.
I had the MPK 49 and recently just bought the MPD 32. And I fell in love with MPD instantly especially it has a more MPC feel compared to the MPK.

The Pads: On the MPK, the pads were stiff at first and sometimes not always responsive as they should be kinda feeling generic. And they weren't very velocity friendly, it took some use and modifying the settings to get them feeling right. The MPD's pads even though still not truly MPC but had a more MPC feel that kinda welcomed you to jump on the MPD and jam out while the MPK was not as inviting especially the MPD has way bigger pads and 16 compared to 12.

Note Repeat: They both the same but since the MPK has a nice arpeggiator, it wins by default. Other than that they are both the same.

Faders and Sliders: Once again this is a tie but I like the way it is set up on the MPK better but they are both for the most part the same.

Overall: They are both great and work well together, I just wish the MPK 49 would have better pads that were more MPC-ish like the MPD and it would of made it invincible even though it is still great as a stand alone product. But if you are looking for a midi controller with a real MPC feel, peep out the MPD 32.
One Love people

that isn't my picture, it was posted by someone else on the forum.... I just find it funny

**** numark and their cheap build quality... there is a thread somewhere around here where somebody who works at a music store mentioned that never has he seen so many returns on something... referring to the amount of busted keys they got back... (not in those exact words)

one more thing, the rubber they put on the mpd series is the same as the mpcs... but for some reason the pads feel different on the mpcs. hitting my mpd16 feels like hitting a piece of rock compared to the 2000xl or 60... or even the 500.

I just bought the MPD myself and I love it. Only thing I dont like is the placement of the knobs. They get in the way of padwork. I agree with your MPK comparison. I couldnt get into the pads... too small/stiff and should have been put on the right side of the controller (imo).

Word, I agree wit u Em. There could be better knob placement on the MPD...but other than that, I love my MPD the way it is and yea, I think the MPD pads are stiffer compared to the MPC's but still have a better MPC feel.
Supposidly, the MPK49 pads are from the MPC 500 (Which I have used before, it's straight but not my preference compared to the MPC1000) and the MPD 32 uses the MPC2500's (which I played around with) and overall MPD WINS

I suspect the rubber is the same and the difference is from the way the casing is shaped and the way the pads are housed.

I think the true mpc feel is not really only the issue of pads... but what the machines do and how they work.

The mpd pads are a little more caved in cus the way they are built for the casing. Like you said, nothing is gonna feel like a MPC like a MPC but for the cheaper price, its all guud

That's my pic.
I never fkd with a MPD32 but IMHO the MPK9 is a bad ass MIDI keyboard but very cheaply made. It's even better now that I added electrical tape under the 12 pads for a way better feel...

yo, has anyone tried the lpd8?? the controller itself kinda sucks cause it has 8 pads and 4 banks, it would have been better if it just octived up instead of the limited banks, but the pads are great. i hate the fact that the light up, but the feel is soooo nice, it was def worth the 50.

yea, it dont have midi, just usb. but i have a mpd32, a tascam us-224, and a radium49 which all have midi, so i wasnt woried bout the lpd8, i got it forr when im away from the house anyway. but the pads man, the pads are great, if they would make a full sized controller with those pads it would be right...
