Kanye West as a producer.... man i was thinking about it the other day, and he doesn't really do much except arrange samples and put down some drums... John Legend does his pianos..... Mira Ari does the strings.... when he samples he doesn't even chop.... he just loops.... so he's not doin much work and he's gettin paid....

I used 2 hold a LOT of respect for him, and still do, cuz i wish i could get paid for doing that, but hey, i guess thats what the industry is paying for these days. Anyway, i just thought i'd vent off for a minute, but on anotha note, i still though Kanye's album was hot, i'm just waitin for someone to tell me that he has a ghostwriter that writes for him.. and i'll just be blown off the top

Keep the music alive,
MIKE

i dont wanna be looked at as a follower for agreeing with you, but I feel the same way. I was never really into kanye that much like everyone else is. I said the same thing to my cousin. He used to play kanye's stuff a lot. But I said he dont do anything. He's really good at sampling (obviously) and arranging like you said. He's creative cause u gotta be to come up with the stuff he does. But your right, it sounds like he does nothing else. I got respect for him cause he doin his thang no matter how he doin it. And people diggin his music. But you right. Are you sure he dosnt play the keys? But oh well, i cant hate on the brotha. He got farther then me.

But you know what....its startin to piss me off when i hear the radio and hear some music they play. It trips me out how its so many people in my area and around the world with so much talent but having such a hard time tryna get heard. But you flip on the radio and you hear some crazy soundin shii and they makin it. Its weird to me. Im not sure what the industry is looking for in an artist. it CANT be people who are unique and sound different cause almost everyone sounds the same to me. its confusing

thats what a producer does homie.

& he does chop, just not like primo, so it sounds like a loop (what i been doing actually).

yup I agree.... you can be doing the simplest music the simplest arrangement but if it's a catchy song or good production then you're
a good producer... why be technical about music when all that matters is
whether it makes you bounce or not... kanye has some great tracks... which must make him a good producer....

Yeah...
Plus, did you ever think about the fact that he probably writes the actual music and comes up with the ideas, chords, melodies, riffs, etc? Then he just tells his musicians what to play...

a producer is a director. Thats all. He isnt any worse of a producer casue he got a staff. He in control of all his sessions and the music that comes out. Oh and Kanye East is a scam. that cat just ridin hype. He has nothing to do with kanye

The man has made hits...no matter what ya thin. The violin chick wouldnt came up with that beat by herself and john wouldnt took that part he might of added to track and made it as big. Tell whats the difference in whay Dre do and what Kanye do!

Y'all ni99as hate too much. If you dont like it, it's one thing but to be here speculating on what he does or doesnt do or the fact that he only uses loops is a waste of time. Let him "do him" and you "do you". Take that energy and put it to getting your sh1t tight or networking and building relationships so you can get on...as Kanye did..sun put in his work to get him where he is.

lol i knew there would be a post that included the word "hate" or "hating." thats not whats its about. why does an opinion always have to be "hating?"

never understood that

Sounds like certain peeps aint clear on what a producer is compared to a beat maker

It would be interesting to see who could actually deliver a great 'kanye' record if they were giving the staff he uses. Somehow I doubt many would come even close

I have a load of respect for him...He lays it down simple but effective - Nothing wrong with that. No 1 said he had to chop a record into tiny little pieces, play all the parts himself and make things real hard for himself
etc. He's found his way of doing things so I respect him for that

How come no1 complains at the fact he dont master his records either

I see where ya'll comin from, and i respect your opinions, even though it still doesn't change mine.... Like i said, he had a hot record, and his beats is tight, but it just seems less effective to me when i know that he ain't doin it..... nah maybe i shouldn't say "doin it" but he ain' doin what i thought he was doin, i'll say it that way... He seems like less of a producer to me knowing that 70% of the beat isn't even done by the person who's name is on the credits.... The back of the Slum album doesn't say

Produced by: Kanye West, John Legend, and bout a million other people who did shit on this song

Instead it says

Produced by: Kanye West........

Is it just because he has a big name? If John Legend layed down the pianos and the song is in a sense, almost only pianos and drums, why couldn't it say

Produced by: John Legend

either way, i guess i'm done venting now, like i said, it's just an opinion, and i also know that someone would say, "Why are ya'll some haters, blah blah blah" but if ever opinion that i ever make in life is hating... then i guess i'm a hater....huh? Because in that case, you're a hater for making an opinion of me being a hater? Right?

Anyway, this thread isn't about hating, so let the "Hating" word stop there.... it was just an opinion of mine.
