I mean it's a damn good effort on it's own cause it's really different and you never heard Jay spit on that style of track... Given that there are a few off tracks that could've used a better sample...

But when I found out that everything and I eman EVERYTHING was off of the White Album... I flipped... I mean when you put it into the context of he limited his sampling pool you can look at it differently... I mean cats put out remix albums that weren't half as good that didn't limit themselves to one album...

Dangermouse got every single drum hit and every single note off of that Beatles album... That's insane... Plus he pretty much could've figured he was gonna get sued for it and did it anyways... That takes balls... Cause I think that puts him into the class of an "Artist"...

Most producer's wouldn't have done that or would've not risked a lawsuit... Dangermouse had an artistic vision and went with it...

Plus he got it out fast as sh*t... It was one of the first remix albums of the Black album and it took a lot more work than anyone else put into theirs...

see thats the thing its subjective. I really dont care what he used to make it. It doesnt make it better for my ears. I dont care if he made an album of a speak and spell, if it aint hot it aint hot. Now this is my opinion. I do like dangermouse, but when i heard that i thought it was sloppy and not arranged well. Also he said in an interview that he used drums from other sources, i think in Remix he said that. Thats nice he gets a bunch of "street cred" but in reality we all could do that if we wanted to. He just was the first. Yeah it was a creative thing for him to do, but the bottom line is if it is hot or not. Aint no one gonna give 2 shi*s if that joint aint fly, where he got the sounds from. My 2 cents

I read the Remix thing you're talkin about and he didn't say he got drums from different sources...

Plus if you have the official album (or the White label vinyl pressed in the U.K. that I got) the sticker tells you that eevry single sound can be found on the White Album including drums...

I don't rememeber anything about it in Remix... I have a subscription so if I find that issue I'll check... But like I said the album itself says different...

Yeah I aint like that grey album eiither..It mightve been one or two but thats it..wasnt really that hot. The novelty of it was that he used one album and that it was the beatles. But as far as hotness, not at all. DJ kno(sp?) did a better job remixing the album in my opinion..but to each is own. And to homie that started the thread...It may get tedious to you diggin' and looking but the bottomline is either you love it or you dont. This is the process it takes to find and make hot sh1t.

I think the Grey Album is more impressive when you've already been a fan of the White Album. Then you recognize little bits and pieces, and you can appreciate how he chopped sh!t and made it new.
I'm a huge Beatles fan, so this album was a huge novelty for me.
I'm not, on the other hand, a big Jay-Z fan.

Yo delnegro... I definitely agree that Kno did an awesome job on the remix tip, but I still say the Grey Album is a classic remix album... It definitely pushed the limits of what you can do with a single record (Actually double vinyl, but still)...

And itchyvinyl I agree also... I'm a huge Beatles fan as well... Like I said when you look at it from a producer's standpoint you gotta say it was pretty amazing... The average fan might say well "oh this was off or whatever" or "I can't dance to it"... But I as a producer listened in amazement... But maybe that's because I knwo the White Album well and realized how much actual work wnet into what he did...

All I gotta say is that when you gotta forty year-old housewives givin some hip-hop sh*t a chance it's cool... I heard my boy's mom like "Have you heard this Grey Album?"...

She's a huge Beatles fan and would never be caught dead listenin to Jay-Z... But that album got through to her...

I mean that's tight... I know a lot of people that didn't appreciate hip-hop until they heard that album...

I guess they saw how you can flip samples in a different way and use it in a new way as self-expression... It just didn't get through till that album...

And while you might say well that's cause they were closed-minded or whatever... In my eyes it's straight cause it just expands peoples acceptance of the culture...
