Sampling you're own snaps.

Anyone who samples their own snaps, or if not, where are you getting them. I would like to sample some live snaps but I have the dullest sounding snap in the world even with EQ, and compression.

I have recorded several live claps but never snaps, make sure you have a nice area and a condenser mic.

i have also recorded snaps and had a hard time. the problem is, you get a really strong attack but no sustain and its usually thin sounding at that. SO

i agree you use a condenser. this is some detailed sound.

i record two handed snaps to get it a bit thicker. then layer that snap with a detuned version of the snap. for some thickness. if you are going for a snare sound, do this again on as many tracks you need, then bounce them to one track to keep things neat.

then add a little eq. i usually bump around 400hz.

then i add a little bit of reverb just so i have some kind of tail. you dont really wanna hear the reverb but just add it so it gives the snap some presence....

just go find Babyface "when can i see you again" and go sample his snaps from there. OR better yet the "Munster's theme" DUN DUN DUN DUN--- snap snap

i dont think you need to get all techy with it. Ive used laptop speakers for snaps, sound find to me. Maybe not clean, but who wants clean? also could add a bit of delay make it sound like more than one hand, plus it extends the sound
