mixer for my setup

im lookin to get a mixer with effects to add to my setup, i currently just do all my mixing in my mpc (panning, volume), i dont have the effects board. i need a mixer badly...

i was just wondering if theres any mixers with effects that u guys would reccomend. my mpc has the 8 outs. i know mackies are supposidly the best quality, but i have seen a few yamaha boards with effects that look great and they got good reviews... any help would be great. i meainly would like to use the mixer for my 8 outs on my mpc and also for my samples from my technics 1200, along with any drum samples i have (use it to eq my drums, maybe add compression, etc...).

bang for buck grab a Allen Heath Zed series and if you can afford it $3.5k NZ get the R16 that thing is a engineering dream! all of the zeds come with a usb interface built in and all models have a sister version with effects built in. lots of expansion options for outpouts etc also. have a look here http://www.allen-heath.co.uk/zed/

im just looking for something to eq my drums and mix my tracks down a little bit...nothing to fancy.

i was actually looking into the Mackie ProFX12. it seems perfect for what i need.

here it is as decribed on guitar center. i really like the 7 band eq it comes with, i would prolly use that to eq my drum sounds/breaks...anyone have any experiance with it?

shop ebay hard and get a cr1604 or 1402 for about $200. The fx on the mackie you posted are crap (so ive heard from reviews etc). the 8 outs of your mp wont even fit on that mixer after yuor tts and stereo mp outs. Get a mixer larger than you think you need because you WILL want those extra inputs. I like to use a send on my mackie to go staright into another channel so that i can send my drums out on send 1 and have that come back in on a channel to give it some eq'ing independent of the channel the drums are on. As far as the mixer you posted having eq for the main outs, i think its gimmicky.. A decent 15 channel rack eq can b had for $150approx. you can get a lot more use out of outboard FX and EQ than the bits mackie has included on that mixer. If you had a band that needed to have a mixer for guitar, bass, and some mics you might be ok with a mixer that small but for production you almost certainly will want a larger mixer..

I have a cr 1604. I have access virus B, mpc 3k, tt's. I have the mixer channels used as follows;
2 channels for tt mixer stereo outs
2 channels for 3k stereo outs
4 channels for various virus outs (could b 6 channels but im running out of room)
4 channels for individual outs from the 3k
2 channels for my sends from drum 'bus' or likewise
and that only leaves me 2 channels for whatever else mght come up, micing up random things, bass player etc..
when i upgrade my setup with some outboard (fx, eq, compressor) and a emu 6400, and HOPEFULLY an analog mono synth ill def need another mixer or two. One mixer to run the samplers (and the assoc. returns)one mixer for synths (and assoc. returns) and probably another small mixer to handle the two 'sub' mixers and micing up of instruments etc.

ok going back and reading you said your budget is $700. allow me to suggest how to spend that dough..
on ebay (used) go grip;
mackie 1604 $220
15 channel EQ rack $130
FX rack (not pro level but decent) $230
Cables with the rest of the doh $120

Someone might chime in and say you could do the fx and eq with plugins but thats not me..this would give you a lil outboard gear to mess about on and a mixer with some ins to get started but youll def wanna expand someday as i illustrated above.

The mackie cr1604 im suggesting doesnt really have to be the 'one' you get but it does have 4 sends so you coukd have a send goin to the ins of your mp, a send routed to a channel on you mixer for drum bus etc,a send to yuor eq, and a send to the fx.

What eq/fx racks would u suggest for a cheaper buy? I would mainly be using them for my drums.

cant help you with recommendations on the fx and eq much, ive used a few things but not enough to give you a better-than/worse-than breakdown.. google/ebay is your friend right now..

I currently have a Mackie Onyx 1640. The Onyx pres and EQ was a major step up compared to the VLZ series. For the price, no regrets!

how are the vlz series? i really dont have ther money to go with the noyx 1640...

why not just do your EFX and EQ post mixer in your DAW? that way you can make changes to your shit later and you don't have to spend money on some cheap FX?

if you NEED rack efx look at the DP4+ from ensoniq or consider an SP303/404

yeah thats what i was thinking...im really close to just getting to learn pro tools. i already have an interface (tascam 144) and with the new pro tools 9 u can use any interface u want (i think i read that somewhere). so itd be easier just to do my mixing afterwards. i still would like to get a decent little mixer to run my samples through before i sample them into my mpc.

also my 8 outs would go to waste unless i get a new better interface to run with pro tools..any suggestions on a decent audio interface with 8 inputs to use with pro tools 9?
