Best Synth for Bass

Hey I will be playing live bass, but also synth bass in a lot of songs. I was thinking; Mopho, Alesis Ion, Nord Lead 2x?

Any suggestions?

There isn't such thing like a "best synth". When you got skills in synth programing you can make a fat sounding bass from any synth.

Although I totally agree with this 100% some synths do suck at bass no matter how much you program i.e. Novation KS Rack, A-Station and so on...the oscillators to me sound like wet farts across a wash board lol even compared to other digital synths such as the Micro Q or Nord Lead 2

Moogs are know for legendary basslines.

gotta mention the roland system 700 when ever the opportunity arises.

Find a Moog Prodigy in reasonable condition, great live-jam-synth . About the same price as the little phatty but sounds way cooler IMO.....Looks way cooler too

How about a moog fooger mf-101. You could get cool synth sounds out of you bass guitar with the legendary moog filter. Plus you could run any keyboard thru it and turn a weak sounding keyboard into a decent bass synth.

after the system 700 maybe.. but who has 20 thousand euros to blow on one synth!

i think the mooger fooger is a brilliant unit for use with the mpc.

I own an SH101. I used to own a 303. I'd say the 303 was better for "real" sounding bass because of the Accent feature. The SH101 is close though. Cheaper than the SH would be to get the MC-202. Similar sound, different package, but it also has the 303's accent feature and can play 2 sequences instead of the SH's 1.

I don't have an answer for the o.p.'s question, but I also don't think it's wise to put all your marbles in one basket...meaning: don't settle for just one source for all your bass sounds.

I personally don't see any one piece of gear that's superior in that department imo. Plus it would be safe to say that there's a very small number of folks around here that do other genres of music other than hiphop or "beats", with the exception of course.

If you're a seasoned producer/musician, you'll tool your arsenal with an array of different bass sounds collected from different sources and be ready for whatever.
