Is Mbox the word you recognized? I'm not putting the Mbox down. Has LE been really eliminated? PT9 will allow to use the I/O of your choice. There are better I/O's on the market. What make HD different on PT9? is just the hardware and procession cards?

Pro Tools 9 does not come with the M-Box line. If you purchased one recently I think you're entitled to an upgrade or crossgrade, I'm not sure. I don't own an M-Box. I do know it doesn't come with the latest version though. The M-Box line will be refreshed soon to include the Pro Tools 9 software, but these will be sold as kits I'm told and reflect a new price.

Pro Tools LE has been discontinued, yes. I think Avid is hoping that the new HD gear and the M-Box line with it's added DSP, additional features and being arguably a relevant leap in quality over the previous generation will propel them, even now that people have other options in interfaces with Pro Tools. There is still a distinct difference between Pro Tools 9 and Pro Tools 9 HD, though less a difference between Pro Tools 9 HD Native and Pro Tools 9 + CPTK2. See the comparison chart. I think the point is that many people will now have all they need in Pro Tools 9, even without the CPTK2. I just wish they'd allow "input monitoring/auto input monitoring" to be turned off, so that we can use the LLM/ZLM of our interfaces or converters that aren't AVID/Digidesign branded. Otherwise I'm really happy with it.

I find it odd when people say, "Why use Pro Tools? Why not use Logic or such?". Well, some people actually like and prefer Pro Tools for many things even if we don't mention the proverbial, often irrelevant "industry standard compatibility" argument. Why shouldn't people use what they prefer? Some people don't like Reaper or Logic and it doesn't work for the way they like to work. Some people have other reasons. For example, I use Logic also but I hate audio editing and mixing in Logic. I mean, I absolutely hate it (except for QuickSwipe comping) and it's not because I don't know Logic. Many others like it, and that's cool. I love Logic's midi facilities though. I also dig Live, probably too much actually! It's great to have options. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything. Use whatever you want and be happy.

I don't think so. I still use a Digi 002Rack. I'm going to just buy Pro Tools 9. I hear the next 004 will sound better than Apogee's Ensemble. We'll see. I've hear nothing put positive things about the M-Box 3's.

Where did you hear that from about the 004? I'm just curious of who would know already. I dunno though. I've heard the Avid M-Box standard and I wouldn't say it even sounded better than the Apogee Duet, more like "competitive". Some people will still prefer the sound of the Duet, some will like the M-box. It's definitely an obvious improvement from the old M-box 2, but it's arguably only on par with the Duet not flat out "better". Features aside, of course. I can't speak on the 004 as I haven't heard it but I'd expect the price to go up from the 003's pricing if it's to be better. If they even make one. Who knows?

I won't be buying either, as I'm set and loving it.
