Hey so I've been looking into some extra gear to ask for for the holidays and I've been wondering if I should just get an audio interface to record my beats and vocals into my DAW or if a should get a mixer with an audio interface. I've just been recording my beats on my mpc 500 as samples and transfering them via USB onto my DAW. Im getting a 2000xl soon so that wont be an option anymore. Just wondering if you guys had any suggestions on mixers or audio interfaces to get.

either a mixer with an interface or you can get some quite nice controllers with interfaces built in now... all on a USB. I can't speak for their quality as I have been rocking a stand alone interface for years now.

if your doing vocals, maybe a mixer/interface is a better shout for you.

Is your 2KXL standard - with floppy etc? If so... maybe a flash memory upgrade, so you can work in a similar way as you did with the 500.

I wanna stray away from file dumping like what I did on my 500. And I havent got the xl yet and it might even be a 60, im not quite sure yet. And yeah a mixer and interface combo would be great but they are fairly expensive. The cheaper ones I saw were berhinger and I was told to stay away from those.

At some point you will need an interface. Just ask how long you wantto go before upgrading it. Then pick the one that fits your needs. If money is an issue, wait till you have enough to get a decent one. Dont get cheap because thats all the money you have right NOW. Thats both a bad way to handle money and a bad rushed gear purchase.
