Does the s950 work as a cheaper way around the 3.10

Just wondering the true need for the s950... Does it basically do what the 3.10 will do EXTERNALLY...

I hope someone understands what I'm trynna ask.....

I don't understand what you're asking really. The OS 3.1 update doesn't suddenly make the MPC60 sample management strictly identical to the S950, if that's what you're asking. I think the S950 has got timestretch and some other stuff which isn't on the MPC60 even with the OS upgrade.

If you must choose between an S950 and the upgrade, do the OS upgrade. It makes the 60 sooo much more enjoyable and powerful to work with.

s950 is a external sampler, with apparently the same (or close) sampling engine as the mpc 60 (some wich have os 3.10 im assuming your talking about ?) the OS which controls the mpc 60, not the s950.. the s950- ive never used it, but i assume its pretty much sample, and edit.. nothing much more.. there isnt any sequencer on it. but it has the same wicked sound as the mpc 60 - im lookin for one now that i sold my mpc 60 fa real.

so the true need, if u need the sound of the mpc 60 its a cheaper way. if u need a sequencer the mpc 60 and 3000 is whut you want. word ?

It takes **** forever to map drum samples in the S950 compared to the MPC60

ths s 950 has a super good sounding low pass filter , in my opinion that would be the reason for me to get one . I had one for a while and just for the filter it's worthy .

The sound of the MPC60 and the S900/950 is not the same, let alone the feature set.
The sampling engine is similarly based but they have different specs.
While the 60 series is 12-bit it uses 16-bit for processing and has a 40k sample rate.
The S9xx series has 12-bit it uses 12-bit for processing and has a variable sample rate (7.5 -48k). This along with the LP filter allow the S9xx series to create drums that sound closer to what the SP sounds like as well as 60 sounding drums.
Similar to why the EPS-16 sounds grungier than the ASR-10 it has 7 sample rates to choose from, which makes the sound get down and dirty.
If you have a 60 already the S9xx stuff you could probably pass on.
A MPC2000/2000xl owner would be a better canidate for getting one.
