Getting something to compliment my mpc.

Which one do you guys think is better? the sp-303 or the 404?

I prefer sp505, but really they are toys compared with MPCs. Some FX but they dont float my boat and they loop to bpm on the fly, which is kool...I have had 2 different sp303s, 1 old and 1 new, still memory cards are hard to get and they kinda suck polyphony wise and the on board sequencers suck IMHO. good for a bit of fun and as said on this forum alot that they can compliment a MPC nicely...... so yeah 404 is newer and has more features but nothing that my MPC cant do better

GO WITH DA 303!

The trade off is between:

303 ===> Less Pads/Memory, 3 FX less but BETTER Vinyl Sim, Better Pads, WAY BETTER SOUND.
404 ===> More Pads/Memory, 3 FX more but a bit wacker, Clicky pads, COLDER SOUND.

YOU DON'T NEED TO SEQ in the box (even if it is possible), you got an MPC for that.

But I'm also sure that you'll fall in love with the little 303 and will end up trying to use ONLY that for some track, just to acquire serious NINJA skills that can ALWAYS be useful.

E.G. You may find that resampling (microwave-style sequencing) it's enough to compose a full track

BTW, I'm of course biased by my setup/workflow...

not really, this description for this section of the site is "For topics about all the equipment in your studio and how they interact with the MPC" so this question seems perfectly suited

FAtboyslim's sounds has the sp303 to thank a bit, play with a real short sample of half a second and you'll notice it. So i kinda miss the 303 i had, was a fun bit of kit. i wouldnt pay more than $100 for it though.

Maybe look into a 202? About 100$ from a p-shop. Got that great lofi shyt you are looking for. I have one and I love it in my setup, both live and production wise.

It doesn't have a sequencer, boo hoo. My MPC sequencer is more than enough. I just record my beats to it.

I have one with no card. I don't need a card. I have an MPC, it is better than a card. The cards are expensive anyway and not really practical.

never messed with the 303 but the 404 is cool.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Im really into getting the 303. I am mainly gonna use it to sample and sequence on my mpc but i will probably make a good amount of tracks on just the 303 cause it looks like a lot of fun. lol
