Those 4 silver screws that are just outside the pads, the bottom 2 are stripped. Anyone know of a way to get stripped screws hex type out, and where can I get replacement screws, cause I can't open up the 4000 to make changes to it. Quite frustrating.

Unfortunately the part number for those screws, 821548x, is missing from the current Akai parts list for the MPC4000. Have you tried asking VST Service about availability?

In regards to removing the screws, if it's the hex socket and not the threads which are stripped, you can use an Easy-Out.

BTW, here's the service manual for the MPC4000 if you need it: http://tinyurl.com/38q3t5j

I was thinking how I would do this last night as I was working on mine....take a pair of vice grips, lock them down, turn left, comes off easily.

You have to remove a lot more than that, the entire front panel holds the pads in.
