16 LEVELS PROBLEM MPC 2000XL

Hello, I have a 2000xl , and a strange problem.
When I press the 16 levels button it isn´t work , and I can´t use this function.
But when I am changing the name of something the button works and it does his function (in this case is SPACE).
I tried to fix it Installing other O.S. but it stills not working.
Please ,can anyone Help me?

Yes, and nothing happens

And you do have samples loaded?

Yes, I tried by the all of ways and nothing , I think that it is a hardware or software problem

if the button works during times you are typing... the button is not broken I dont think.

so you got samples loaded... from the main screen you push the 16 levels button and it shows no change on the screen at all?

Was there any resolution to this? I have almost the same issue.

- Pressing 16 levels simply yields no result.
- Pressing the 16 level button when naming files does work just fine for adding SPACE.

Attempted so far:
- Installed new tact switches.
- Reinstalled the OS a few times.
- Checked and reflowed traces on the board and verified continuity.
- Soldered jumper wire to and from all necessary traces just to 100% rule out the possibility of any faults with the traces.
- Re-flowed and verified continuity when pressing tacts from the pad bank to the control board.

It really makes no sense that the 16 levels button registers when naming files but not for what we really need it for.

I'm pretty much at a loss, anyone have any ideas?

Wal Martian, thanks for the response but I'm not sure what point you're trying to make? All page 22 states is how to use 16 Levels.

Yes I know in order to use the 16 levels function you must press the 16 levels button. The problem is (as stated above) is that pressing that button does nothing period.

- I am pressing the 16 Levels button from the main screen, as I've done with every other MPC I've had or used over the years.
- This particular MPC is running v1.20

Some other hardware related things attempted today:
- Removed ram, booted with stock 2mb.
- Swapped ram modules from my 3000XL
- Reseated the cable going from the bank board to the control board.

I find it odd that the only acknowledgement I get that the MPC is talking to the tact switch is only when it comes to adding spaces in naming/saving files.

basically, it's not a problem with the button... his mpc is saying "**** 16 levels!".
