Problem with 2 pads, newbie to MPC's - Edit - think its brok

i just got a 4k, what a machine!! im new to MPC's so i didnt know what i was doing when i tested it but i since found pad 12 is about a quarter responsive and pad 16 is totally dead.

are there any basic proceedures to follow before trying to find new pad replacements?

EDIT - i just took it apart and noticed the ribbon looked dirty.when i wiggled it about one pad worked a bit better. so i pulled it out and when i rubbed it big patches appeared in the thin traces and hence now it hardly works. is there such a thing as a re-tracing pen and if yes would it work?

May as well buy a new set of pad sensors.

thanks for the reply, i will try the pen. its not too expensive..with regards the sensors, perhaps im blind but i couldnt find them on mpcstuff

Just an update -

I bought a nickel pen, and after i reapplied the traces they all worked fine again but the right hand 4 didnt work. so it came in and out maybe 20 times looking for shorts or gaps, it only turns out it is the 90degree bend where the ribbon goes down that the traces had worn off.. so after touching the traces back up it all now works.

So perhaps all you who have had pad issues that havent been fixed with a good old clean maybe your traces had worn.

Thanks a lot, I have the same problem with one of my pads..

I 'll definitely do a good clean before trying new sensors..

when you open it up check the thin metal stips that bend down over the chassis, mine had split at that area breaking the contact

yeah my pad 13 was dead so I just ordered new sensors. The clip where the ribbon goes it doesnt slide back like all the other MPCs, the ribbon just sort of wedges into the little slot... It has that thin piece of plastic glued to the top of the ribbon to get the ribbon to fit snug in the slot. When installing new sensors did u just reuse the old piece of plastic or did u use something else?

well i cant answer that as i just repaired the old sensors mate
