I have a roland/edirol pcr-50 midi controller/keyboard that i would be willing to trade for the 3200. It is a 49-key with 9 faders, 8 knobs, and 8 momentary buttons that you can assign to control your software/vst's it also has usb and midi in/out so it doubles as a midi interface for your computer.

but besides the abcence of up/down cursors on S5000/S6000 any other positive or negative differences in sound , features ,
workflow, etc. to S3000/3200, that you've experienced ?

Well personally I found the sound on the 5/6k better in a nicer to listen to sort of way, the way samples transpose and stuff..it just sounds nicer to the ear over the 3k series..not sure how else I can describe it.
But that's where the good things stopped for me, in terms of work flow I found it a bit of a pain compared the the 3k's
Everything just feels like a bit of a chore to me in them, the way you can chop a sample in a 3k is just so easy but then again it's probs just personal preference but generally I prefer the OS of the older ones even though they don't have all the features of the newer models and the smaller screen I never found a issue..the big screen is over rated imo

One thing that I do always complain about on the 3000's though which I guess is not a biggie to most is the fact that they ditched the inputs on the front of the sampler..which gladly made a comeback on the 5000 and 6000!
I'm constantly plugging ish in and out the sampler

I use it as a sound module most of the time and for sampling records...for drums and sequencing I mainly use the MPC

I did this track few weeks ago and 90% of the sounds other than the BassStation keyboard and drums are from the Akai 3200XL
I borrowed my mates DX, made some patches which I then sampled

also, are you sure the s3500 wasn't changed tp the s5000 in the end j/k

as it turns out, the scsi on my s3200 xl is perfectly functional

so my current inventory of akai rack samplers is:

1) s2800 digi/scsi/ 4MB

2) S3200xl 32MB, and of course fully loaded

both have brand new backlights, and soon the s2800 will have internal zip drive.


i have parts for s3000xl, and also a working s2000 for sale if anyone is interested.

Does anybody have a spare working floppy drive for the S-950? Would like to get one without having to go through VST and paying an arm and leg for it. My floppy drive is unable to read disks anymore and its cramping my work flow as I use this sampler a lot. PM if you have any available.

who's selling a s5000?

Is there a way or a hack to mount AKAI S950 floppy on a MAC OS ...
in order to get the SND files on computer ....without sampling them into soundcard?

I know there is a complicated way on a PC using Omniflop and bunch of other utilities...
but i don't have a PC in my disposal --- only Macbook Pro ....
