I believe a lot of companies don't fully understand what "samplists" today want out in regards to chopping. Mashine misses the mark and numerous users give NI plenty of feedback on this issue.

Machine needs a quick method to manually slice a sample non-destructively and assign to pads, and allow users to freely adjust the start/end points of a chopped sample/pad without impacting other chopped samples/pads.

Combining the elements of JJ OS chopping with my Fantom G chopping...is perfect.

Thanks for clearing that up because there are dudes on here that chop on software and pass it to their MPCs, so how is a software-based program gonna fail in that department? Lack of timestretch is an **** though.

Long live the MV and the MPC500!!! :D

Maschine's software is limited when it comes to chopping and sample editing. The latest model MPCs do everything Maschine does in this regard and much more. I use both an MPC and Maschine and just breaking down their differences. See the NI User's Forum to see what other users have to say.

Ive used Maschine for a few weeks, its not bad but it limits you for sure (dunno if they added timestretching or not) and I can say if you r into producing beats and cant afford a MPC, a lil pad controller and a program like FL Studio is way better and cheaper than Maschine..

Maschine is a sampler. It isn`t to hard to get, edit, and play the sounds you want in it. It is laughable to say you can`t do anything on maschine. The only true limitations is the hate. Maschine isn`t for everyone but it is good for making music.

This bro hits it all on the nail.

And saintjoe knows maschine well too.

DJ Mitsu one of the premier producers (work with Kev Brown, Dwele, and a gang of other) in Japan in doing a beat demo of maschine. Dude is a die hard 2xl user but still rocking the maschine with groovy beats.

This is a 4 part video I skipped to the 3 for the beat foundation.

Yall are tripping saying maschine can`t do this or that. Just choose the tool you are the most comfortable with.

Not hard...but Maschine's lack of standard sample editing tools that most hardware and software samplers have had for over a decade doesn't make it easy.

You still haven't enter the beat battle, ran away and now this false claims. Ok let's see maschine has no truncate, no slice, no insert, no section, no regions, no normalize, no, loop, no fade in, fadeout and no resample functions? All of which is pretty standard in samplers, right?

And don't come back with the already stated timestretch as it has already been mention
and that isn't any hindrance to great production of loops if you use ableton live or recycle as most software users have the pass decade.

Like my man said you can even do it the Pete Rock way or Premo with way less functions
and make classic so stop beating a nonissue to death.

Let have that beat challenge you ran away from before two months ago you on your mpc5000 and I will come with maschine.

Even those prefer the mpc 4000 workflow, maschine is a worthy purchase for cats that are looking for a new tool if fits the individual. It isn't for everyone.

I don't speak japanese, but I really wasn't impressed with just loading up sounds and playing with it on the controller. I can do pretty much the same on my MV and still have the mouse and screen. I don't know if its the video but I can see and hear the latency.

If you can show a link of the Maschine sampling and chopping without the help of other software then I'll give the benefit of the doubt.

For the record it was DJ Mitsu`s first time on the maschine and it was a promo so the settings and his reaction weren`t as fluid as it would be when he`s on the 2xl. But his sound was great and for a first time beats on it the demo beat and the background beat both done on the maschine can`t be denied. But yes it would seem like alot of latency and jaded at first.

This is some of DJ Mitsu`s work on the 2XL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-h39BKr ... re=related

As for as a chopping and execellent beatmaking videos this thread is 18 pages deep so I had already posted alot of videos of chopping and sequencing early but I will repost again the cat that inspired me knocksquared.

On the real I learned alot of techquies from him even those I`m still on my 4k. Alot of the noise to me at least being made about this or that feature missing or being needed is just show the difference in abilities of the users. This cat was making jams using 1.0 and 1.1 just like on a old school sp1200 or 3k.

Last note on this though maschine, mpc, mv or whatever isn`t going to make anyone a better producer. It is how well we work with our tools and how well it fits our individual personal workflow. I prefer my 4k it fits me. Not me fit the 4k. But maschine fits alot of people and I learn from them how they make music. 8)

No doubt, its the user not the gear that makes good music. I wasn't saying my devices are better than the Maschine, I was just saying I can do that on what I got and not looking to spend money on new stuff. I'm sure Maschine can do it all.

On the timestretch issue, I'm not even concerned, but can it at least pitch tune samples? If it can then thats better because then all I would have to do is pitch shift the sample to its original pitch after I speed it up or down.

Cool vids BTW.

Just my 2cents for the sake of it..

I am (former) MPC user. But last week I bought Maschine and new Mac. I use computer for other stuff too, so I don't see it as a "beat device" or anything like that. It's more than that.

I travel often so having a portable setup, I mean, a real FULL SETUP is awesome. Yeah, I've carried my MPC (extra 8kg's and extra luggage) so many times that I feel like this is a big relief for me. Now I can do everything everywhere.

When it comes to Maschine vs. MPC, man, I'm really leaning towards constantly developing laptop based setup instead of rather aged standalone solution. And in the end of the day, MOST of MPC users needs COMPUTER at some point. So whats the fuzz?

I've owned several hardware samplers including XL, MV, ASR, SP404 and so on. I gotta say that Maschine is finally putting end to my continued frustration. Finally I've a setup which is convenient and inspiring. My style of doing things needs an ability to come back from almost ready project to do some small changes to arrangement and so on. When using 2 or more different sound sources, that makes things a lot more complex. That's a fact.

I am a long time fan of MPC and I've done a lot with my XL. I think the sequencer and the super-easy user interface will be something that I'll miss. But in the other hand, I'll get triple as much done with this setup. No more tracking, no more waiting for samples to load/save, no more ancient bullish nonsense. Some will say that it's just a part of the beat process to wait for the samples. I rather spend that time doing the actual beat.

In the end, Akai means nothing to me anymore. They fcuked up their amazing legacy and pretty much did everything wrong in their business. That is probably the biggest reason why I decided to NOT buy any MPC ever again. Things could be different, Maschine could be one of AKAI's products. But honestly I think it's better that Native did it. I emailed them, and I got a response in 2 days. Some companies really care about their customers...

XL is still the most important gear that I have, but I think things will change in future...

Fact: Maschine does not have the same level of sample editing tools found in the leading hardware and software samplers....even those created 10 years ago. You know this....I know this...and an entire forum dedicated to Maschine knows this...it is a top feature request to improve sampling and sample editing.

You can talk about the work-arounds as much as you like. You can talk about things that are not relevant to this discussion as much as you like (beat battles  ). This has nothing to do with whether Maschine is a worthy purchase. You turned an MPC vs Maschine thread as your personal platform for a strange agenda. Stay on topic. MPC versus Maschine.....the MPC (1000, 2000XL, 2500, 4000, and 5000) all have more extensive sample editing tools than Maschine. Everything that Maschine can do when it comes to sampling and sample editing can be done by all those MPCs and every leading software sampler (the ones that actually samples). However, NI's Maschine cannot boast that it can do the same sampling chores as these mentioned samplers. Fact. Everyone that owns Maschine and used other samplers know this. You have no credibility in this regard.
