Your Thoughts on the ASR 10??

This Sampler has been getting A LOT of Press lately which has caused
a spike in price for a used a one (the one below went for $890.00 on ebay!, 2 months ago they were going for $500.00 mint! go Figure!?)
but I 've been a firm Believer in this board for it's Versatility and loud, warm sound ,plus the fact it has on board effects,some however don't
like the sound but esp the sequencer.I'd thought I'd get your thoughts?

i copped mine for $811 like 3 or 4 months ago with SCSI, output expander, digital I/O,and a zip drive... i thought that was a good deal with all the extras... it came with a few disks too...
i havent really messed with it to much to tell you the truth since i got it...
ive got 2 manuals to read covering the ASR and its newer 3.53 OS...
but judging from what i saw while skimming the manuals that i had to print out myself, this thing is a beast... imma have to start messing with it soon, ive lately just been trying to master the s950 sequenced thru the mpc60...

These dudes are ensoniq geeks esp. when it comes to the ASR 10 and
EPS 16+,an there site has everything you could ever need for the ASR 10

nah both of those prices are a good deal espically since they all have sci installed they could have easilly went for a lot more

and i dont think the price on them have went up this has been the price range for years ive seen some on ebay starting out at 500 but they dont end that way (without the sci )

I bought two ASR 10s off of Ebay and and an Output Expander in the last 6 months. The first ASR 10 did not have SCSI and I paid $465 for it. (it was pretty beat up though, I ended up selling it for $500) The second ASR 10 cost me $700 w/ SCSI in excellent condition, and a carrying case. The Output Expander was $175 alone though. So I guess total my existing ASR setup is worth about $875. I think the ASR is great though. I'm loving mine, the sound and effects alone. Sometimes I'll take the same sample and put it in my ASR and then my MPC 2KXL just to hear the difference and there definitely is a difference. Overall I think it is one of the hottest samplers around, hands down.

the sampler is superior to that of the mpc. the sequencer is doo-doo butter. you could use it but your better off sequencing on the mpc and using the asr for sampling...its got lots of depth but not much of n interface...

Word Doo-Doo butter. However for sound design the asr 10 is lovely.

I bought mine through Craig's list about 6 months ago for like $700 with mem expansion, SCSI, mint condition, output expander, foot pedal, manuals, ZIP.....pretty much everything except the dig I/O. I haven't had much time to use it, but last night I busted it out and I forgot how nice that sampler sounds. I like the FX and sounds, but the action on th ekeys is nice too. It works much nicer than my previous controller. I use the ASR with my MPC4000

I know the Sequencer the MPC's sequencer, but If it's so bad then what
the Alchemist and the RZA and EL-P ??

Defintly sounds better than the 2KXL.

Cause it was released in the new jack swing era when super tight computerized swing was the thing. now a little drifting doesnt matter.

I've had my ASR-10 rack for about 11 years and I still use it as my sampler of choice. The effects, sound, and editing features make this sampler STILL one of the best samplers in the market.

I've got both ASR-10R & ASR-X. I pretty much sample in the 10 edit kit into it and then (if it's a drum kit) load it in da X! I though X sound louder then the 10! What's good with the ASR-10R, it comes with SCSI digital I/O and the 8 out...
Guys always talk bout ASR's wack sequencer, sure ya betta record seq with ya MP! But I notice that once you've get your sound readdy in the ASR (talk bout the X) I can done a seq faster on it than on my MP. This s**t is just to easy to work with (I never read the X's manual). I def redo my sequence on my MP but I though idéas just come faster with my sound bank already inna it.
Perhaps may I try the Flash Rom on my 2KXL... but it damn expensive!
I also think ASR-X sound louder then MPC2KXL (not the 10, but both ASR's filtrz are warmer) untill you have your OWN tricks to sample loud in your MP ! Even better if you've got the EB-16!
I finally would say, use both MPC&ASR, and if you can, add a 12bit sampler to up ya game!

Right now I have a MPC60, MPC2000, and the ASR-10. A few weeks ago, I took the asr-10 and the MPC2000 and sampled in the same drum break - Emerson, Lake and Palmer "Love beach" Lp. Into both machines...chopped the samples as close to the same as I could and recorded the same 2 bar pattern. Right off the bat, the asr let me do so much more......I took out any bass that was in the high hat instantly....you cant do that on the mpc...unless you use the 8 outs and a mixing board. The sequences were the same in the end....(MPC was easier to nail what I wanted tho) BUT the asr sounded so much more authentic...I played with the filters, effect and everything....The mpc could not compare, I kinda felt sorry for it. LOL.

The asr-10 sequencing is easy and flawless if you know how to cut your samples properly. Ill admit the swing on the mpc's is very nice, but if you have any sort of talent you can play that .... out. You dont need a machine to do it. The best part about the sequencer is you can have it play and be molding your samples at the same time....The mpc you have to stop...mod..play ..stop ...mod play....ASR-10...you can adjust the pitch/edit stop-start/filter/envelopes all while your song is playing...Editing is a breeze without seeing the wav..I have no complaints. The sound of this machine is second to no other. Effects are amazing, being able to resample any sound thru the effects is dope. The time stretch takes forever but it sounds good.

I tried the asrx-pro. I think its better off as a paper weight. The Mpc series are ill for sequencing (the best out, IMO), and playing the pads for drums is nice. But the sample engine is garbage (MINUS the 60...it sounds so crazy). Otherwise the MPC's cant hang as a all in one unit. again, IMO.

I have Midi'd up my asr to the mpc for a few tracks, but its not worth it...I can get the same seq. on my asr alone.
