Best Bedroom DJ Mixer? Suggestions please...

anyone got any recommendations on dj mixers fit for the bedroom (small in size) that are of any price range?

I've rocked a couple of mixers - Vestax MPC06 and the Allen and Heath Xone 32.

The vestax is quite new to me but i'm really enjoyin it so far...

and the allen and heath (or allen and grief) is temperamental but when it's rocking it's a joy to use and has a **** phenomenal filter. Used this a lot when I was mixing out filthy drums and bass a few years back.

if you kindly throw everything at me i can evaluate priorities. i don't think i really need anything outside of a mixer that does the job (well) but perks can be enticing...

heard the Gemini UMX 5 is a good buy, anyone second that?

the main output level is a bit quiet, but it has a 6dB boost that can be enabled by messing with some jumpers
when I first got it the power switch arced and crackled when you turned it off, but I got it repaired under warranty and now it's perfick

I use the FX loop for a Kaoss Pad and the 3rd channel has the output from a little mixer that my samplers go through. if you don't need a third channel, there's the NUO2.0

You can service these yourself, too - replacing faders etc. Also double as a completely legit pro mixer if you happen to leave the bedroom.

Word there are a few variant versions as well. Mine has an fx loop and an extra set of input on the front. I can constantly keep serato and traktor connected. It's very nice. I'd like to sync a kp3 to traktor and run it through my fx loop as a midi controller and a standard fx processor. Outboard control of traktor's effects and also new fx midi synced to traktor's clock. I would highly recommend the mixer. You can even add spacers to the fader to get a razor sharp fader cut. It's no rane but if your a bedroom DJ I wouldn't buy one. Good resale value to if you decide to step up.

this looks good also, up to 300 is my price range.

one question for you all: my turntables are connected to the mixer via a wire that has a 'ground' part to it. most of these expensive mixers do not need to be grounded, do i need to get any different wires, or when i get a new mixer just ignore the ground wire?

I think the Eclers are grounded through the earth pin of the mains power:


so connect the turntable ground wires to the mixer's GND connection and you're sorted

I imagine it's the same for other models with internal power supplies.

I used to have a cheaper Numark mixer, which had an external power transformer so no earth, and that needed a ground wire connected to my amplifier (which was then grounded through the amp's mains earth)
