A couple beginner q's: Sampling while seq is playing

I'm about to receive an MPC1k for the holidays, and while I have been reading through the manual, there are a couple of things that are difficult to find the answers to due to varied terminology. I know that I'll be able to easily answer my own questions once I receive the unit, but I'm just looking for some simple verification by seasoned users.

OK, my two basic questions:

1) Can I record samples while a sequence is playing? So if I were, for example, to record a guitar loop, could I have a 4 bar sequence with a drum loop playing while I record my guitar loop so that I can play to the groove of the beat? Or will I have to resort to just having a metronome going while I sample?

2) (a two parter) I'm fairly certain the answer to this question is YES, but can I start recording my sequence, and record multiple tracks (track 1 for kick, track 2 for snare, etc.) without stopping the sequence? I'm also planning on purchasing a Waldorf Blofeld, so a continuation of the question would be, once I've laid down the drums, can I record MIDI from the Blofeld while the sequence continues looping? And then if the answer to the first question is YES, can I record a sample, assign it to a pad, and then throw that newly recorded sample into the sequence? I kind of doubt that last part, but it would be dope if I could use the MPC1k as a legit loop device.

Well, I was able to avoid any RTFM responses, but I'm still a newb...I should've searched before I posted. I will report back with answers!

Aight it seems you CAN do this. This will be great coming from owning an SP303, SP404, SP555, and an SP606 all at various times. It will be my first venture into the MPC world after a year of debating the purchase. I'm planning on also getting the Blofeld as I mentioned and an Electribe SX for more effect type sounds and phrase samples. I'm also going to get a TC Electronics M-One and KP3 for two of the outs of the MPC to add effects. It'll be a crazy setup.

Also, to clarify, if I record a sample while the sequence is playing, I don't need it to immediately start looping. I just want to be able to attach it to a pad, and then sequence it in with everything else while the sequence is playing. All of these features aren't necessary, it would just extremely helpful for my workflow. It seems I'm able to do all of this so I'm extremely stoked.

I believe the sequencer stops once you stop sampling. You can do everything (including initiating sampling) while the sequencer is playing, but as soon as you stop sampling, the sequencer stops. This is in JJ OS, I'm not sure what the situation is in Akai OS.

As for switching tracks and recording on various tracks while playing, the answer is yes. You can switch tracks and you can switch into and out of record or overdub mode (you can even do it using a footswitch on JJ, again not sure about Akai OS) and lots more, without ever stopping the sequencer.

Thanks for the info. That's a bummer about the first part, but it won't be too big of a deal as long as the latter is possible.
