program to manipulate 808

i'm looking for a program to manipulate 808 kicks.. maybe a vst or some thing i dunno

i just want some thing that i can use to layer under my kicks in logic to give em a bit more where they are lacking

logic can do anything almost but is it the best and some what easiest to manipulate an 808 kick in?

Yeah, I would say get a good 808 emulator (or do you mean a Real 808?) and learn to use it really well as a plug-in for Logic, then do so.

Load up an 808 sample into Ultrabeat or EXS24 and manipulate as you wish. Filter it, pitch it up or down to match your song's key, use plugins to EQ and compress it, etc. Or place the sample directly onto an audio track in the arrange page and use plugins to manipulate it like above.

Depending on where your main kick drum is (whether its in a sampler or directly on the arrange page) you may need to put some work in, to get the 808 to line up exactly with it. If your main drum sample is on the arrange page, then do the same with the 808 sample. If your main drum sample is in a sampler, then do the same with the 808 sampler (use the same sampler or another sampler on a separate track - the choice is yours). Pretty much every sampler (HW or SW) will allow you to have both the main kick and the 808 loaded at the same time, either directly layered, or placed on separate notes so you can layer them by playing both notes at the same time.

There's a pre-set kit on the Ultrabeat called "Vintage 08 kit"

dial that sucker in and you have a nice starting block.

Hi.

Why not try the test oscillator in Logic? Insert it on an Instrument track. Select sine wave as tone. Lower frequency / pitch to taste (around 40-50Hz should get you in the ballpark of an 808). Insert a closed gate on that track. Set gate sidechain to be fed from your kick track. Now, every time your kick plays, it will open the gate and release your 808. You can tweak some attack / release on the gate to keep it open longer or close faster - start slow / start fast - you get the picture.

You can also do the same for snares by using the pink or white noise tones in the test oscillator. This will add punch to your snares.

Yup, that definitely takes you into the fundamentals of what makes an 808 sound tight. If you start to master things on this level (Sounds as Frequencies) it's like seeing the numbers behind the matrix. But the rabbit hole isn't for everyone...

This technique sound much better than usual 808 kicks IMO (depending on the quality of the osc and the gate of course) I used it a few years ago when I had the chance to mix some stuff on a ADT console. I used the Gate and OSC of the console and this boooooom sounded so nice and warm. Never heard this quality again.
