Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By gdrive215 Sat Sep 18, 2004 6:09 am
hi all,
the owners manual states the mpc can hold 24 programs, but i only see how to use 4 at once (drum pads 1-4). Is there a way to use a different 4 programs on a different sequence? For example, does sequence 01 and sequence 02 have to have the same 4 programs?

I would like to have 4 different programs for each sequence.

pleas advise,
g

Are you getting confused between programs (which can contain up to 64 different sounds on each bank of 16 pads) & those four different pad banks which can only contain 16 sounds each?

On the original MPC2000 you can use one program at a time but that program could have samples on pad A1, B7, C3, D13 etc.

I think there is a way to use two programs at a time on the 2000xl......

Yes, sequence 01 can use one program & sequence 02 a different one, but if the two sequences are part of the same song you need to insert a program change command at the start of each one so they switch to the right programs.

Are you using a 2000 or an 2000XL? I'm not too familiar with the XL... but its suppose to be able to play up to four programs at a time. As the homey stated above, the regular 2000 only plays on at a time.

On a 2000 you can assign a program numer to a program (open window on the program name... the rest is obvious)

then on the main screen where it says "pgm: off" change that to the appropriate number. So when you turn to that sequence the program automatically change.

If you want to do it in the middle of a sequence, you have to go into "Step Edit" and place a program change message at the time you want it to change.

doh, sorry to bring this back up.

it seems program change commands want to change both the drum program and the sequence being played. i probably have something on the wrong setting. any suggestions?

please advise.
